Walk at the Cherry River Bog

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

The forecast today was rain, but the sun came out at about noon. I called my sister and we decided to brave the forecast.

There were dark clouds on the horizon when we got to the Cherry River Bog.

Walking on a boardwalk is one of my favorite experiences. (I thought of you, Irene.)

The pleasant, easy trail is just a bit over 4 miles long.

We came upon 2 baby chipmunks running and playing and just enjoying being alive! We stayed awhile to watch them and managed to catch a picture of one of them.

We also took a photo of a squirrel munching on his snack. But unfortunately we weren't fast enough to take a photo of the baby fox that darted by in the woods.

There are plenty of benches on which to sit and enjoy the view.

A Canada Goose enjoying a swim, and Mallard Duck preening his feathers.

And what is this monstrosity?

I was looking forward to seeing the new nature centre that was built on the site. I'd seen plans of a beautiful, rustic cottage that would fit right into the natural setting. I couldn't believe it when I saw this UGLY building! They spent over a million dollars on that centre. What an eyesore! My sister told me that they've received many complaints that the centre was NOT built according to the plans that were submitted. It's extremely disappointing!

Wow! What a peaceful, serene place! I could spend some serious time there, soaking up that view! But as its a bog, I imagine the mosquitoes would be enough to keep you moving.. Boardwalks are so nice to walk on. Great chipmunk photo -those little guys rarely stay still long enough to get a shot!
At first glance I thought that was some trailer park lol. Its really a shame they didn't go with the rustic cabin look, wonder who the big wig was that got it switched??
Thanks for another lovely walk!!

Love the nature photos. If it lasts a couple hundred years then the building might be considered a rustic cottage. I agree it is very ugly.

LOVE that boardwalk. You are so blessed to have such country to walk in... the center? OK, not what you'd LIKE to have there... but... with so much that's so great... I'd count it as one of life's bumps and appreciate the good. I'm willing to bet they won't tear it down and rebuild, no matter how many folks complain.

What a shame to spoil such a view, but's a beautiful walk and I love the pics you posted Rej.

We have a familiy of urban foxes that sun themselves on our shed roof; they just lie there lapping up the sun. Lovely to see.

Never seen a chipmunk except in pics, so adorable, but I understand they can do a lot of damage.......or is that just bad press? LOL

What a beautiful walk! Especially the board walk parts. I was really enjoying the board walk photo and thinking "I would love it there" when I saw your comment Rejj. :-) And you saw a fox! Wow, I have never seen one.

But that building. It cost a million dollars? What a travesty.

Thanks for sharing your walk. And good for you for doing yet another walk!

I sure wish I was there to walk with you. It's beautiful. I haven't started walking again yet. I do pedal my little cycle, but am ready to get out there and start walking. It just takes that first time to get me started.

I looked at the building before I read what it was. I thought you had come across an old abandoned building. I can't blame those for complaining.

The chipmunk is so cute! I choose to remember the other pictures and pretend the monstrosity isn't there.

Rej, I am so glad you are walking again...and sharing your walks with us! (I do have to agree about that building...doesn't blend with the landscape at all and sticks out like a sore thumb!) I did love the wildlife photos, especially the chippy! emoticon
