Excuse me, I don't think we've met....

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

I went to a retirement luncheon yesterday and ended up sitting next to a colleague I've worked several projects with over the years...not closely, but we did work together. Even though I had acknowledged him when he sat down late at the luncheon, about half way through he turned to me and said, "Excuse me, I don't think we've met." At first I was annoyed and pointed out our past. Then, seeing his embarrassment, and realizing we hadn't worked together in the last year, I continued with, "But I was much heavier then." Left feeling much better!

That's emoticon I have a funny story to share about not being recognized. I was looking through pics on my blackberry and came across someone sitting in my living room chair. I didn't remember taking it and didn't know who it was. Imagine my surprise when Meghan said, "Mom that's YOU, I took it when you fell asleep the other night" LOL, that was the 1st time I really realized I had lost weight, but I had to see it in a picture to really believe it. And to my defense, it was sort of dark in the picture and I simply didn't expect to have a pic of myself in my own camera like that. BUT still, that was a pivotal day for me as even though I knew I weighed less, wore smaller clothes, etc., *I* didn't really see what I looked like until that moment. Then you couldn't keep me away from the camera, LOL.

That's so great!!! Sounds like you might have to get used to stuff like that. :) I had someone tell me I look like Helen Hunt a couple of weeks ago. First time I've heard that in about 50 pounds!!!! (20 more to go). :-D

I empathize with the poor guy -- I have a terrible memory for names AND faces, which was especially embarrassing when I worked in retail and had trouble remembering my regular customers. emoticon

You recovered nicely, and I'm glad you chose to take it as a compliment that you've lost so much weight since the last time he saw you that you've become unrecognizable! emoticon emoticon emoticon

What a huge compliment. Of course you look extremely different and for someone who hasn't seen you in months there is a chance that they won't recognize you. As you realized, he meant no harm.
I know it must feel a bit strange but I hope you are feeling real good about this interaction. You have gone through a major transformation and it shows.
Good on you!!! (Did I get that right?) emoticon
