It is NOT a lack of Willpower

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

IT'S NOT A LACK OF WILLPOWER !!!
IT IS A LACK OF ???? FRUITS AND VEGETABLES and SIDEWALKS ????

The IOM (Institute Of Medicine) Finally Admits That
Obesity Is Not The Result Of A Lack Of Willpower.
Cable Channel HBO Will Air A Documentary Next Week. (Weight Of The Nation).
….The Committee Also Grappled With One Of The Third Rails Of American Politics: Farm Policy. PRICE-SUPPORT PROGRAMS for WHEAT,
Cotton And Other Commodity Crops PROHIBIT Participating Farmers From Planting Fruits And Vegetables On Land Enrolled In Those Programs. Partly As A Result, U.S. Farms Do NOT Produce Enough Fresh Produce For All Americans To Eat The Recommended Amounts, And The IOM Panel Calls For Removing That Ban.

The Committee DID NOT ENDORSE The Call By Food Activist Michael Pollan And Others To ELIMINATE FARM SUBSIDIES That Make
High-Fructose Corn Syrup,
Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils
And Other Obesity-Promoting Foods Very Cheap,
However.
"There Is No Evidence Subsidies Contribute To Obesity," Said Glickman. (Dan Glickman, A Senior Fellow Of The Bipartisan Policy Center And A Former Secretary Of The Department Of Agriculture)

SO

They decided that the obesity epidemic is caused by a lack of choice....
Want to bet that means veggie burgers on a whole wheat bun as the answer.
Meanwhile ...
they don't go anywhere near the issue of how diets high in carbs are addictive and may be contributing to the obesity and diabetes epidemic.

ARGGGGH.....Give me Strength

Today Is Day 6 Of My 6 Weeks Into Leptin Sensitivity Training.
Eating High Protein At Breakfast Everyday Within 30 Minutes Of Rising,
(Aiming For 50 Grams Of Protein for Breakfast… Is Not Easy)
Eating 5 Small Meals A Day
And Limiting Carb Intake Below 50 Grams Per Day For About 6 To 8 Weeks.

did 40 grams of carbs yesterday
(had 3 cups of cabbage and 3 cups of eggplant)
and did 155 grams of protein (mainly fish)

I now find I am sensitive to Sucralose (Splenda)....
these are the things you discover when you detox and then re-introduce something. When your body is overloaded with toxins, you just feel like garbage but you don't know why. So... yet another discovery.

First Sherylds, I think you are doing an amazing job! Hang in there, things will eventually settle down and you'll feel better. Just listen to your body.

Ok ladies...here are some websites for you about artificial sweeteners & processed sugars:

h/?id=7403942n&tag=pop;videosR>

http://www.webmd.com/vita
mins-supplements/ingredientmono
-682-STEVIA.aspx?activeIngredie
ntId=682&activeIngredientName=STEVIA

It basically comes down to going a 100% natural. There are no substitutions for the real thing.

Pure can sugar is by far sweeter than bleached white sugar. You automatically use less. Yes it does change your blood sugar, so you do have to track how much you eat. However, making sure you always eat plenty of fiber & protein with whatever carb you eat (including pure cane sugar, unprocessed honey, unprocessed maple syrup) will slow down the spike in your blood sugar.

I really hope this helps. These artificial sweeteners are simply poisonous and so are the chemicals they use to process the sugars. This stuff darn near killed me.

LOL. I'm for anything that causes more crop space to be devoted to fruits and veggies instead of grains, even if they come to this conclusion by some odd way.

What a shame that they could not at least get rid of transfat. I don't know a single soul who bestows the virtues of it.

I understand they hate to diss HFCS as they are sugar lovers.

I've never had a veggie burger, even when I was a vegetarian, but I've had a ton of them pushed at me. They might be good but it seems weird. I'm a carnivore. It's a lot of trouble to make something taste like meat when you can just eat meat.

Awesome blog . . . and yes, yet another reason to question ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that the govt. tells us.

I can't believe they still think there is ANY need for farm subsidies. That is just disgusting. The government needs to get their hands OUT of the private market. The simple laws of supply and demand will take care of the rest. It just disgusts me that they are going to keep up this nonsense. One would hope that someday, a tiny bit of common sense would shine through, but alas, NO!

Thanks for passing on the info. It's frustrating to see how our government is controlled by special interests. The more people are educated the more likely consumers will be the largest special interest group.
It is true that if people don't buy grain they will stop growing so much of it.

Thank you for this post! I wish we got HBO here. Maybe we can add it on before the airing next week ;-)

I noted, in the linked article, that they again left the concept of "fats and sugars" in the final remarks to cement them further in the public consciousness. However, NOwhere in the rest of the article did I ever see carbs mentioned (although I was just scanning, I may have missed it.) Sounds about par for the course.

I'm glad you're finding out things that work or don't work for you (sucralose). I've heard others report troubles with it, too, although it's the one "artificial" that doesn't give me any problem. Stevia doesn't work well for me. I hear lots of people say stevia is fine for them, so hopefully that will be the case for you. Good luck!

@ APPLEPIEPAPPLE ~ I'm envious of your homemade yogurt! I keep thinking I'm going to try that myself one of these days... with coconut or almond milk instead of cow juice. ;-) I see those bases in some of the yogurts in the health food store (at exhorbitant prices!), so evidently it's possible.
Be careful with the agave, though: I know it says there's nothing in it but agave nectar, but many sources I've checked say it's almost entirely HFCS. Stick with your idea of stevia, or maple syrup and honey. Those "naturals" are still loaded with sugar, but it's not GMO sugar, at least.

EGALITAIRE ~ for shame! our government would NEVER lead us astray. Of course they have our best interests and health at heart! (after all, where would they get their next "resources" for the international political games they're playing if they killed all the troops???) Yes indeedy. I trust them implicitly.

[ snickering ] TAMPATINK ~ sweet tea is the "state beverage" of nearly every state south of the M-D-L! hehe Condolences. I occasionally order some off-plan thing in a restaurant and the first inattentive swig nearly always shocks my palate and makes my eyes water with the sweet content! I want to go in toting my favorite "zero" drink... but I think that wouldn't set well with management! lol

Thanks again for a great post SHERYLDS.

Yeah, I can't tolerate any of the 'sweeteners' either.

Did you ever see that old movie 'Soylant Green' and basically everybody was fed a cannabilistic mixture, somehow our food supply seems just as insidious.

There is a new study out on the news saying that 1 out of 3 people in the Us are overweight..obese. but the projection for the future is is one out of 2. The problem is getting worse. I agree with you..low carb..low wheat is the way to go.

Do you feel better eating high protein?

Splenda is what caused my autoimmune disease to flair up in 2003. Artificial sugars also killed by bacteria in my digestive system in 1982. After a year of predisone I finally got my liver back to normal. It nearly killed me. Yogurt healed my digestive system. I make my own yogurt now which is healthier and use cane sugar or honey. I did buy some agave and pure maple syrup which may be more natural and better choices. We shall see... I need to investigate stevia for baking. Thanks for those tips earlier.

I think convenience has a lot to do with obesity too.

For a lot of people, it's easier to buy foods that just need to be popped into the oven or microwave. From what I can see, most of those 'convenient' foods are loaded with things that aren't so healthy.

Thanks Sheryl - you mean govt policy could be contributing to the obesity epidemic - hmmmmm. But they're the gov't - we need to follow their advice slavishly, how could they mislead us us - oh ya - special interest groups - I forgot.

You sure don't have difficulty stating your opinion... and showing how you feel about it. (that photo says it all!) I feel the way you do about certain subsidies, but just can't express it as well as you do. I'm glad courageous activists are speaking up for the rest of us.

It's great that you're becoming more aware of what's toxic to your body. Keep up the good work on the leptin reset!
