Spider Bite?

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Ok, I came home yesterday because I was sick and my stomach was cramping like crazy. I laid down on the couch at 2 PM and didn't wake up until 7 PM. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, but I felt a little better. I had an upset stomach all evening, but it wasn't as bad as it had been earlier in the day.

My toe had been itching yesterday morning when I got up. When I got up this morning it was itching and hurting. There was a little pimple in the middle of a hard white bump the size of a quarter on my big toe. I popped the pimple and it has been weeping ever since. I looked up spider bite and honestly it resembles the initial stage of a brown recluse bite. The symptoms of stomach cramps fever and nausea fit too.

So I guess the question is, am I being paranoid and probably just ate something bad yesterday, or do I make an appointment to go see the doc?

Don't mess with spider bites. I had a recluse bite me on the upper cheek a few years ago.

Luckily I went to the Dr. soon enough they could pump me with some monster anti-biotics, twice a day for 2 weeks.

Luckily I missed all the gruesome symptoms from the bite and just had a big scab for about 6 weeks.

Ok, I went to the doc. She confirms, it is a spider bite. They are thinking black widow instead of recluse. It fits the symptoms I had better and the skin isn't turning black and necrosing like a brown recluse would, plus we know they have been found in our crawl space. (You could not PAY me enough to run cables under this house). They are getting me some cream and I have a follow up on Friday. Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice.

Go to the doctor! It's a terrible year for creepy crawlies. I've already had ticks in the house thanks to the pets. And to many spiders to count. And ants. Brown Recluse bites aren't anything to wait around about either.....I don't want to worry you but even if you drain the bite it can keep rotting the skin and on a toe....well you could loose that get to the doctor asap.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a spider bite. Afterall those spiders come out of nowhere. Be careful and take care of yourself.

I know you hate to do it, but go to the ER!! You don't want to mess with a Brown Recluse bite!!

At first, when you were describing it, I thought maybe it was a fire ant bite. But that would be much smaller and you wouldn't have the other symptoms.

They say it's going to be a bad year for bugs and I can already see it. (My elbow is swollen from something biting me in the garden yesterday, too.)

Be safe! Go see a doctor...especially since you have diabetes!!
