Hey there Gang, I'm happy to report that I'm home from the hospital and everything seems to have gone well. I donated just under 10 kg of tissue and skin to the Burn Ward.
I can tell you without a doubt, that the last year of preparation paid off. I now know for sure, that if I had not been in the gym 6 days a week preparing myself physically and mentally for this surgery, I could not have come through it as easily as I did.
Going into the operating room, I knew that I was in the best shape that I could be physically and mentally. My confidence in my surgeon and myself was high , so I was pretty sure that things would go good. We had a bit of a set back that required another trip back to the operating room, but this was not a problem, because my surgeon had prepared me for that eventuality. Although disappointing, I was prepared, and things worked out. My surgeon made some predictions, and all but one of them have come to be, so we are quite confident that we picked the best man for the job.
Considering the facts that I ended up in the operating room twice and that I needed 6 units of blood, I was pleased that I was released after only 7 days. I feel great and would love to get back in the gym. I'm told that I'm about 6 weeks away from that.
As I look forward to my upcoming knee surgeries, I know that I need to get back into the gym as soon as possible to get my body ready for the next assault. I know that preparation will make the difference.
