Who Knew?

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

I have loved soda pop most of my life. The mere whispering sound of opening a soda up was music to my ears. Now, I have not had a soda in over a month. I began to cut back mid March after reading an article by Vincent Pedre that made perfect sense:

I checked his web site out and I just liked him. I did a bit more research and read some articles here on also.

I am not sure what came over me, there I was giving diet soda up. I am encouraging others to join me and a few have.

Diet soda has always been my constant companion because of the zero calorie bargain with flavor and hydration. Many diet soda proponents feel comfortable drinking diet soda because it lacks the high sugar regular soda has. Consider the adverse side effects including

1. Kidney Damage

2. Weight Gain has been attributed to diet soda in several ways. One theory is that the sweet taste of diet pop alerts our digestive system that high-calorie foods are coming. When they don't, our bodies are confused and our appetite increases in anticipation of the food it's expecting.

3. Tooth Enamel Damage

4. Bone Loss is my primary reason for making this change.

Perhaps giving diet soda up is the right step for you. I am very please with my decision so far. I want to feel better, age better and strive for health in every way I can.

Ask yourself what means more to you a soft drink or strong bones! Who knew I would make this change, not me. But baby it feels good!

I am 100% in agreement with you! I quit drinking sodas when I joined SparkPeople two years ago, and now when I taste a Diet Coke (I used to practically live on them!), they taste nasty! Good for you! And I loved the guy, too! emoticon

Well done! I used to drink 2L of pop a day, when suddenly, one day, I simply got sick of it and now I can't really stand it. Its been years since I have had it. I have had the odd mini ginger ale since then, but still doesn't appeal to me -I never could understand why hospitals would always offer you ginger ale -so I assumed it must be okay for you lol.
Good luck with keeping soda free -that is awesome will power!

I gave diet soda up years ago....couldn't stand the taste. But, bad thing was until SP I drank the regular soda pop! Coke, Pepsi, you name it, but that didn't last for long, when you realize it is just empty calories and sooooo bad for you. Like you said in your blog...even diet is bad. Not to mention Aspartame sweetener is poison! Good for you! I really enjoy water more than anything now! Unsweetened Tea is my 2nd favorite! emoticon

    Awesome! I applaud your decision.
It's really chemistry in a can and in my opinion not fit for human consumption.
Keep up the good work!

I unintentionally gave it up. I never did drink that much and without realizing it, just stopped.

I am with you! I gave up Diet Coke in January. It isn't easy.
I hope that isn't causing great harm to the stock value at Coca-Cola. LOL!

I"m with you on the soda purge. I was never a junkie.............usually had one every other day or so............but now I seldom have one. They don't even taste that good anymore.........usually I would rather have H20.

Good for you Victoria.. I love diet pop and have tried to give it up before. I limit how much I drink, but would eventually like to give it up entirely.

I don't know or remember when it was but a test was done with a raw piece of meat in a fish tank of soda pop, and what happened to that meat in a short period of time while in that tank, was shocking. I don't drink soda ever.

Woo Hoo! Good for you. It may not be easy now, but trust me it gets easier with time and you wont even think about it. I gave up soda 3 years ago this month.
