One of my absolute favoritist snacks as a child and a teenager was a Little Debbie Cosmic Brownie and a glass of milk.
If I really wanted to make it special, I'd nuke it in the microwave, and put ice cream on top.
I went over to Dad's on Saturday and he had a package of these and I had a sweet tooth so he let me have one. I did not eat it right away. In fact, I brought it home and it sat on my kitchen table all day Sunday and half the day Monday. I was even going to feature it in my vlog, stating that I hadn't eaten it yet, victory, yay. But then I ate it anyway. And I won't lie, it was good. With a cold glass of milk to wash it down? Oh yeah, it was yummy.
And 5 minutes later, I started to feel like crap. Not like I was going to throw up, and I didn't have to poo, but I felt sick to my stomach. Not guilt (okay maybe a little). But processed food that my body is not used to anymore. And I will take *that* as a learning situation, and as a victory. My body knows what's good for it and what isn't.
I do still buy crackers and pita chips and tortilla chips, but rarely to never do I buy packaged cookies, cakes, honey buns, pies, coffee cakes, brownies, tandy cakes, sponge cakes.... I could keep going. Basically, if TastyKake or Hostess or Little Debbie makes it, I probably don't buy it anymore.
I do still eat at restaurants and get pizza occasionally (okay, too often lately), and I love cheese. But I think that eating healthy 75-90% of the time, and making better decisions (like thin crust instead of my beloved thick), is making me a healthier, happier person.
And by the way, that brownie was so NOT out of this world.
