The Spring 5% Challenge is in the last week. As I reflect over the last 7 weeks, and evaluate my success, (or disappointment about weight loss), I realize I need look back further in order to clearly understand how much I've progressed since joining Spark People.
I left this comment on a friends Face Book page today: If we don't take care of ourselves first, we get in our own way and slow up the process.
I've spent most of the past 7 months taking care of me first. Eating what I wanted, when I wanted, not exercising, not doing any of the "shoulds" I "know" I should do in order to be healthy.
I also left this comment on a friend's blog today: We learn and grow and grow as we learn. Each restart finds us better prepared and stronger than the time before.
2010 - I lost 40 pounds and felt better than I had in 20 years.
2011 - I was ill most of the year and gained most of the weight back
NOW! I'm feeling better all the time.
NOW! I've decided I'm no longer going to should on myself. (you oughtn't to should on yourself either)!
Saturday was weigh in day, and I was afraid to step on the scale, so..... I somehow forgot to do it. Today I decided to give myself permission to not be a should-der.
Great news! The scale didn't break when I stepped on it! The sky didn't fall, I didn't cry and say "I shoulda' known better".
I didn't gain back the whole 40. I only gained back 29!
ATTITUDE BABY! Change your attitude and change your life!
This is a recycled blog from April 15, 2010, when I weighed 11 pounds more than I do today! I didn't write the verse, perhaps you've read it before, but I sure would like to live it!
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror,
and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
'Well,' she said, 'I think I'll braid my hair today.'
So she did and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror
and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.
'H-M-M,' she said, 'I think I'll part my hair down the middle today.'
So she did and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed
that she had only one hair on her head.
'Well,' she said, 'today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail.
So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and
noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head.
'YAY!' she exclaimed.
'I don't have to fix my hair today!'
Attitude is everything.
Be kinder than necessary,
for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
and count your blessings continually.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain.
