Motivation Challenges

Monday, May 07, 2012

Gosh, am I lazy....... It is so difficult to get the motivation juices flowing. Seems like I have to pull myself up by the boot straps just to get moving! Once I do I wonder why it was so difficult. I enjoy being outside and taking a swim or walking, but boy, just getting out the door is such a challenge. Sometimes I sit at this computer all day and don't want to budge. Why is it we procrastinate so much? I like a clean house and don't really mind cleaning, but you would think the world was coming to an end to get my butt up off the chair. Some days it seems that the only thing that would get me up out of the chair would be a herd of wild elephants could come trampling through the house to get me up. Why do we make life and moving so hard on ourselves? Why am I so lazy? It puzzles me to no end and I sit here contemplating all the aspects of my motivation challenges...........

I hope it helps just to know that you have lots of company in that department. I suspect most people struggle with the same issues. I certainly do. The strategies which have helped me the most are:

1. keep a short "to-do list, no more than 3 or 4 important tasks and start first thing in the morning. Let your TV or computer time be your "reward" for getting them done.

2 . set a timer for 15 minutes and work on 1 task until it goes off. You'll be surprised what you can accomplished in 15 minutes and usually you will find that you want to continue because " a body in motion will tend to remain in motion".

3. I use stickers as a "pat on the back" when I've finished my task list. They are not just for children and you'll be surprised how good you will feel when you see that "star" of "smiley face"

Most of all don't beat yourself up for not being perfect or doing everything perfectly. Only one Man, Jesus Christ, who lived 2000 years ago could claim that distinction and He doesn't expect us to be perfect.

God bless

My remedy is that once I wake up,I'mthinking of all I have to do and realize that it won't get done with me sittig there, thinking about it. I work Monday thru Friday and the weekends are mine. So I get up like I'm going to work and make use of the weekends as this is my time. This has helped me in keeping te house clean, gettign my errands donw before 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays which allows me to get more time out of my day. Maybe there's something else going on but if you don't do it, who will?!?! Just some food for thought! emoticon emoticon Make it happen!

I have to set a alarm on my clock to go work out ... I think it is something that I view as something that has to be done so there for not something i want to do ... i always feel better when i get started but yes i feel your pain about being lazy especially when it comes to my cpu ... I am alone most of the day so sitting here reading or talking with others seems to take the lonely out ... I need a workout buddy but i am still looking lol i will get there one day ... now come on get up and go do five laps around your house it will get the juices moving and you will want to do more .... emoticon

I can TOTALLY relate to your problem getting motivated... sometimes I feel the exact same way. While I don't have an answer to help get you moving, I DO suggest that you not be too hard on yourself for feeling that way.

There's a commercial on TV right now that states Newton's law, and for me it seems to be true: "A body at rest tends to stay at rest... and a body in motion tends to stay in motion." Once I do get moving and do something, I find that I have more energy and motivation to do something else... even if it's something little like vacuuming the floor. So rejoice in your little victories, andd know that they're helping to build bigger ones!
