My DH has been up in Minnesota for the past week and a half. The staff at the place where his mother (87 years old) has been living felt that she was no longer safe in "Indpendent Living". Her memory has gotten so bad that she has become a danger to herself and others if not in a more controlled environment. He found a wonderful place called "Sunrise Cottages" which is a "Memory Care" unit. Unfortunately she is not happy there. She keeps saying she wants to go home. But she is thinking of the house she lived in 35 years ago. She called him 4 times yesterday, asking him to come and get her and take her home.
Craig did everything he could to make her comfortable in her new place. Brought some of her furniture, hung her favorite pictures on her walls, brought her lamp and her clock radio. The staff at this place is very good and I know they are doing what they can to help her. Hopefully, she will become less agitated in the days to come.
Craig came home late on Friday. We will both have to go up to Minnesota sometime soon to clear out her old apartment. We have some time, as we had to give 90 day notice of her intention to vacate. Don't know what we'll do with all her stuff. Sell most of it. Give some to our kids. Maybe keep a few things ourselves.
It's another stage of life, I guess. Caring for aging parents.
