We do a lot for the birds, bees and butterflies around my homestead. We have planted butterfly and hummingbird gardens, updating them each year with more vibrant plants. I plant flowers to attract the bees, even though I am allergic, so they can pollinate my other plants. I've given up fennel and dill to the caterpillars who will turn into butterflies. We put up feeders for almost every type of bird that wants to visit: hummingbird, Nyjer for the Goldfinches, suet for the cardinals and woodpeckers and a large tray feeder for jays, starlings, thrashers and more. The Man brought home two more feeders last night to increase the probability and types visiting. Since I've been housebound, it's been gratifying to watch out the window to see who comes to visit. Here's a sweet bonus I got this morning:
We do as much as possible to encourage and nourish birds, butterflies and bees. It's made me ask what I'm doing to encourage and nourish myself.
