Saturday Hike With Some Photos

Sunday, May 06, 2012

Started out my morning with 60 min on the elliptical, then Mom and I went on a hike. We were going to go to the Farmer's Market but decided to go past the dog run to go see if the crocuses were out. It was a foggy morning, darkly overcast, catching a break from the non stop wind.
The lower trail below the off leash area was still quite muddy and damp:

We walked all the way around Peterson's Ravine, a place we don't often go to:

This is a rocky area with them scattered all over:

Love these huge moss covered rocks. We saw lots of crocuses eaither done or not opened up -Mom thinks it was too dark and cool for them to open up:

We went a little ways on a trail we have never been on, but had reached our turn around point:

Then we saw a freshly dug trail heading back and took it to see where it went, was unable to uplaod these ones. It simply lead back around to the usual trail we use to go up from the ravine:

We had gone exactly 10 km and took three hours to do it. It was rough up and down trail, and I could feel that I was not use to the climbing. It was a lovely, peaceful hike without the wind. We got home in time for lunch and then relaxed. I was a little disappointed we never went to the dog show, but it had changed locations, now on the other side of town whereas it had always been within walking distance of where Mom lives before. Don't know why the venue change. We also opted not to go to the Farmer's Market. She said we would do it tomorrow. But Sundays are lousy, limited hours and with very few vendors there.
The sky was so dark out, it was difficult to read so spent the day watching more movies, Fantastic Four II Silver Surfer and Earthquake, Hancock and then finally Perfect Storm.
As I so rarely get to movies, it was nice to see some. We had a brief thunderstorm and lots more rain. Supposed to continue to rain Sunday with only a high of 10 C (50F). Long range forecast says it will clear by the time I have to go home and warm up :P
Have a Super Sunday all..

Your pictures remind me I need a new camera.
I'm going to use the eliptical at the gym after work, but doubt I'll manage an hour.

Hi Linda, love the pictures. I will share mine soon!
BTW, that hike was almost 8 miles, not 8 hours! I believe it was just over 4 hours.

I do feel for you , when you have to move all your files onto a DVD. If your computer is as slow as mom's....expect it to take all day.....DO find something to do if you can.

My problem was the questions that popped up, which required my staying put. Groan!

You did 60 minutes on the eliptical BEFORE going for a 10 km hike?!! emoticon WOW! Looks like you got a good hike in before the storm. It's always fun to discover a new trail. You don't seem to have many leaves on your trees and bushes yet. Ours are just beginning to come out. It feels a bit desolate until things start turning green again.

Great hike: love your pictures! These must be wild prairie crocuses?

Thanks for your supportive comment on my "delicious but enough" blog: it does feel like a breakthrough!

I would love your gloomy overcast. It is warm here today and will be downright hot all week.

I wish I had the scenery you have when hiking. I live in the desert where it's only sagebrush, and Joshua trees, and cactus of course. I would be doing WAY more of it. I do have a hiking path in the foothills (it's on one of my blogs) but still not much to look at. I would give to hike by a stream, forest or somewhere where it takes my breath away while I am walking it.

The hike looked nice, even without crocus. We have sunshine today with wind and 57 degrees. It's suppose to reach the mid to upper 60s, and we had 70 degrees yesterday. I'm fighting off a cold and only went out to cover my plants for frost protection. The wind machines were on a few hours, while they've run most of the night Friday.
