Ladybugs As Pest Control?

Saturday, May 05, 2012

emoticon emoticon emoticonHappy May! Let us have some fun! The old saying goes that "April showers bring May flowers." Thereby this month with be dedicated to a variety of things to do with flowers (and/or gardens, and/or gardening). These may include, but not exclusive to, jokes, hints, notes of interest, quotes and if I can figure out how ... pictures. Perhaps it will "spark" some ideas.

emoticonLadybugs are beneficial insects in flower and vegetable gardens. They eat soft-bodied pests, such as aphids, whiteflies, mealy bugs, spider mites and thrips. Each consumes as many as 5,000 during its lifespan. Purchase ladybugs from a local greenhouse or garden store. Marigolds, butterfly week and goldenrod attract the beneficial beetle. Other beneficial insects are ground beetles, honeybees, praying mantis, wasps, yellow jackets and spiders. These insects eat harmful pests and help with pollination.
Embrace the joy in your day and keep smiling sunshine! emoticon
