The Road To Recovery

Saturday, May 05, 2012

My son had a rough day yesterday and he was exhausted. He has finally been able to sleep a little since then. He looks horrendous though.

It's a lot of stress on me and even though I ate on plan yesterday and got my exercise in I awakened at 3 in the morning with pain in my hands and wrists, GERD, and an asthma attack. I seldom have GERD any more if I eat on plan, and I did eat on plan, and I have not had asthma problems in a long time either. I got up and did my best to treat my symptoms without meds as I don't have any. I never went back to sleep and was too tired to get up and fix breakfast at 6. I got up at 7 and defrosted a frozen breakfast sandwich for my hubby. Those things are really icky but sometimes you have to make do. I went back to bed and rested, then fixed my son and me a real breakfast later when I got up. At 9:00 I called the new doctor who wanted to see me as soon as possible. My doctor retired and the new doctor takes a long time with patients. I have seen him twice and he seems okay. My son has seen him twice now too. I miss the old one though. I have been though so many docs in my lifetime. I could never even count them all. After my 9 month illness in 2006 the docs like to keep on top of things with me. So my son and I got ready and left at 11:15. I left his office with 2 prescriptions, an order for 3 OTC drugs, and an empty wallet. LOL. For the time being I will have to treat the GERD. I can't risk the asthma attacks. He ordered 2 GERD meds, some allergy medicine, my B.P. med, and an inhaler too. Ugh. I hate meds.

We then went to my son's appointment with the dermatologist. The dermatologist was not there but his physician assistants were. I guess on Friday they have a party for their patients. Lots of pretty people there. My son called it a Botox party. LOL. He was ushered into a private room right away away from the princesses. Every one who worked in the place came for a look-see - like a side show freak. His face and body truly looks awful but it's difficult to be stared out. They think it might be chicken pox but they aren't sure. The markers aren't there. They have never even had a case of it. They said that adults my son's age rarely get it and that by his age 99% of the population have had chicken pox or have immunity. They gave him a ton of meds and instructions too and took a biopsy. He has to go back this week for a follow up.

We had to wait on our prescriptions so we went to the park and ate. The geese and ducks ended up with half our meal as they are such beggars. LOL. The geese are so big they can stick their head up to look right in the car. I can't resist them. They are so cute.

I was able to get a few errands done while we waited - paid the power bill, went to the bank, went to the newspaper office, got a few groceries at Wal-mart.

We came home and I made supper. Hubby came home and said we had to go to town because he overspent on gas and didn't have enough to pay for it - he owed $2. LOL. He had to get some lawn mower blades anyway. We went to Lowes, Wal-mart, and Kmart and my hubby could not find what he wanted. We bought a mother's day gift for my MIL's best friend, some suet and birdseed, and some Kool-Aid and candy bars for my son.

The weather radio went off and it stormed most of the night. The sun came out today but it was hot and muggy. Miserable. I do not want summer in May!!!!

I managed to sleep in between the thunderclaps. We had an indigo bunting at the feeder this morning. I love them! I made breakfast late and lunch late. I started my new OTC meds and at first I struggled with them as it felt like they were hung but I have gotten used to them.

I had let things slide here and had to run the dishwasher twice today. I got the trash burned, took out the compost, fed the wildlife, and put out some strawberries for the turtles but none showed up yet. There are lots of squirrels hanging out around the feeder and a few birds. Hubby put some suet out for the birds. I saw a pregnant deer in the back yard this morning. My peonies are blooming.

The new med kicked in and my son slept a lot of the day. I woke him to eat and take meds. He has meds every 4 hours. I changed my son's dressing. I hope that he doesn't end up severely scarred.

So sorry for your GERD & asthma. How is the MRSA? Wow, hard to believe in this modern age they can't confirm Ian's diagnosis.

Thoughts and prayers concentrated on you and your family. Sure hope you get some answers for your dear son soon. With all this going on...you still spend time and energy feeding and loving God's little creatures around your place. You are really something! emoticon mary

I am praying he recovers with little to no complications! MY one daughter has 1 pox mark on her face! don't let him pick anything hoping to get rid of it! that is when the scaring occurs! It took 3 months after my second daughter had them for most marks to "lighten up". You needed this right? and still you get all the things done you have to do! I don't have any excuse now! emoticon

Golly! What could it all be? It so sucks that a stressful time can come back and hit you with ailments retroactively, but that's often what happens. Please try to build in some rest time for yourself.

I am glad your son was able to get some much needed rest and I hope you can do the same. Better days are ahead of you!

Love the geese. There were a few grown ups and a bunch of goslings of assorted sizes crossing an access road at SAMs Club yesterday, half way across, some of the babies decided to turn around. A big one had to go herd them back over while the rest of the pack stopped and waited. They tied up traffic for several minutes but it was so amusing to watch!

I know how nasty GERD can be. Is the head of your bed up? It helps. I had pnemonia serveral times before surgery. Hernia determined surgery for me. Hope it settles down soon. Even with meds, it takes a while. Take care. Hope ds is better. Sleeping is a great help in healing. How old is he? An adult, I know. My grandson has had chicken pox twice. Lucky guy. If the markers aren't there, what else would it be?

I hope the biopsy provides a dx and clear tx, even though he seems to be getting better. I like clear cut answers, not fuzzy ones. Sorry about the GERD and asthma stuff, that's uncomfortable and miserable no top of the other worries. DH is home, so I'm going to pay some attention while I can. I'm caught up with your comings and goings - thanks for writing to keep us up to date. Glad you're resting when you can, too (not writing blogs)!
As mom would say, Loves ya.

Oh, wow, now they think it's maybe NOT chicken pox? Hard to treat something when you don't know what it is! Can't believe how much you get done even when you're not well. It would totally wear me out! Hope you can get some rest and that Ian recovers without serious results...and your weather cools down. We should be cooler here after the storms...or so they say. Take care!

What is going on over there? Chicken Pox? Yikes - he'll probably go straight into shingles. Hope he gets some relief soon. The oatmeal bath tablets help with the itching.

I have had GERD for years, and had stopped taking the meds unless it really acted up. Then the dentist told me the acid was eating the backsides of my front teeth, so I now take it religiously.

Went on vac with my three old work friends (we worked together for nearly 30 years and I'm the only one not retired). We did the Memphis/Graceland and Nashville/Opryland thing. Not being a country music fan, I felt like an alien in Nashville but loved the Memphis Blues!

Take care of yourself and son! Hope you're both feeling better soon.

I sure hope they figure this out for you, as to what is going on with your son.
The waiting has to be the hardest part to find out what their biopsy shows and what ends up being the final reason for this problem with him.
I feel bad for all of you...such a stressful situation.
People staring is so unbelievable. Kids staring is more understandable, not full grown adults!
I will be praying for you and your family, in hopes this subsides real soon for you all.

Wow you guys are really getting bombarded. I hope you both feel better soon. I also hope they figure out what he really has. Interesting about the pox, how old is your son. My kids both got it bad and hubby had never had it as a kid, and dr said for him to stay away, he was probably late 20s by then.
Rest and take care and hope every day you both get better.
