I am not and have not ever been much of a girly girl. I grew up wearing Wallabies and Tough Skin jeans from Sears while other girls wore platform shoes and Ditto jeans. Up until high school I even got my haircut with the barber who cut my brothers' hair. None of this was my doing, it was just the way I was raised. As a result, I don't know much about applying make-up, wearing heels, and getting pedicures. It's not like I am a tomboy, but until recently I would rather have hidden in board shorts and a sweatshirt. And as I look at my bright pink background on my Spark Page I am even baffled how I came about that. Must've been some kind of inspiration. Anyhow, something happened today.
One of my goals was to meet my 1000 Fitness Minutes, which I did in April, and as a reward, treat myself to a pedicure. I honestly don't know why I thought that was important at the time. But oh well, I decided I am worth a treat, and one of my "Other Goals" is to do something nice for myself once a week, so I made an appointment for a pedicure for today.
It was all initially a bit overwhelming - choosing from so many colors, sitting in a massage chair, having someone handle my callused feet like they were in crystal slippers. And then I started to like it. Before applying any color, I noticed the bright toenails on the girl sitting next to me. I liked how they looked and at the final moment choose to have the same color on my own toenails (I hope that isn't breaking some kind of pedicure etiquette!). So I walked out with this kind of bright orange, the kind that might have once been a Volkswagon Van color. Pretty cool. And then stopped at Target on the way home and bought a shortie nightgown and a loufa hand mitt. Back home, I sat in the backyard and got to enjoy the sun for the first time in months. Now, after a shower, a lathering of some nice smelling shea butter, I am reclining in my new nightie and feeling like a girly girl. I kinda like it!
I am going to keep my goal of 1000 Fitness Minutes every month, with a pedicure reward. I also would like to stay committed to the Spring Boot Camp Challenge and lose 5 pounds during the month of May. I will continue to read The Spark and make comments on the message boards, and aspire to blog at least once weekly. I am not going to change anything with my long term goals, not yet at least.
