Day at the Races

Saturday, May 05, 2012

Today my middle daughter and I are watching the horses race. She has on her big floppy brim hat waiting for the 138th Kentucky Derby to begin. I'm 58, she's 26 and what we are experiencing is the meeting of the minds. Countdown has begun 24 minutes 36, 35, 34 ...... seconds left before the big race begins. No betting, no mint juleps just pure enjoyment of watching such magnificent animals run. The beauty of such a well defined athlete run, such grace and attitude, it is so electrifying to me. God has created such a beautiful expression physical fitness. As we see the jockeys mounted on such beautiful horses it is hard to know which horse to choose or cheer for. Not that it really matters we are not betting anyway. As the horses are led to the starting gate, we know that the time is almost here. The time to hold your breath for seconds and then it's over. The names that these horses are given are like a line from a poem and that leaves another whole page for discussion....................
..........................
........ and the winner is...............I'll Have Another.
