Progress so far (end of week 1)

Saturday, May 05, 2012

No, this isn't about my weight loss progress. I haven't focused on that since I started the gym. Currently I am proud of my daily commitment to follow my muscle building program and the Sparkpeople Spring Bootcamp. I am on track!

I forgot to mention in my last blog that my fat percentage was 38 and my goal is to shrink that by my 6 week progress/evaluation check up at the gym. That will be at the end of the first week of June.

I love my gym, Anytime Fitness. I have seen many people from our small community, and I feel like a kid in a candy store! So many cool pieces of equipment, most of which I am ignoring until I learn to use them properly.

My personal Strength Training program, which is 4 days of gym ST and then 1 day off. Bootcamp has me following the daily videos (that day 6 program is really hard, by the way, but I did my best!)

Cardio is daily 30 minutes minumum, although my daily intensity varies. I have fallen in love with the Elliptical machines... some are slightly different so I can focus on different muscle groups. You can burn more calories in a shorter workout.

My favorite Elliptical has me "running" without bothering my knees. Today I "ran" one mile in 7.30 minutes. I could only go for at that pace for that amount of time, then I slowed down and finished out my 10 minutes.

I like the treadmill as well, so far I just walk on that. My current comfortable rate is a 20 to a 17 minute mile and I hope to improve that in the next month.

Other machines cycle, row, ski, scissor walk...

I am eyeballing the boxing gear while I Strength Train, maybe I can learn some of those exercises in the future?

Now I am off to try a new-to-me smoothie drink, the Incredible Hulk; I will let you know what I think in a future blog.
