For those of you that did not know: My Stepfather (Earl) had back surgery on Tuesday, May 1st. I had about 4 hours sleep before I had to pick him up and take him to the Hospital. We arrived at 8:15am.
Four hours after we arrived at the hospital, his surgery was started. At that point it was around 12:40pm. I had not had breakfast or lunch. I went home, ate an egg an a slice of lunch meat, and headed off to Earls house to wait on the Phone and Cable people to come for repairs. They said they would be there by 5pm. They were there at 5pm and stayed until 6:30pm to fix the problems.
I left and went home, too tired to go back to check on Earl at the Hospital. I did call and they said he was fine. I got in the bed with no shower, no food and dozed off. At 9:48 pm. Earl calls and tells me to go back to his house to get his Glaucoma eye drops and bring them to the Hospital for him. They did not have any at the hospital. I got out of bed and drove across town to get his medicine. I am night blind, so this was not a fun trip for me. I had to call the Hospital to get permission to go up there that late. Had to go through security.
Wednesday was an exhausting day also.
Thursday, Earl calls and says they are booting him out of the Hospital. I thought he should stay. He is 87 years old, he should stay.
Then when I am almost dressed, my Brother James calls. He has fallen off his bike and wants me to come take him to the E.R. (Three dogs ran out in front of him. He swerved to miss them, and hit one of them and it threw him off the bike.) I asked him to call an ambulance or let me call one. He begs me to please come to get him. He lives a long way from me, but I made it in record time by running some very orange/red lights. I drove the same way back to the E.R., through the orange/red lights. (We passed 3 police officers that had cars pulled over and giving out tickets. I guess I just got lucky.)
At the Hospital, they took him back right away, because he looked so bad. His left elbow looked like someone had glued a bloody baseball to it. He was banged up and bleeding from various spots.
The nurse asked him if he had hit his head. I told the nurse I knew that he hadn't hit his head, because there was no damaged cement (LOL).
Meanwhile I am in the ER with my Brother James and I am trying to find someone to go get Earl(my Stepfather) some clothes and get him home from the Hospital. No one was home and my Uncle Ben did not have a key to Earl's. I left James at the E.R, drove to Earls and got some clothes to take back to the Hospital. I thought I would figure out the rest later.
I finally contacted Uncle Ben and dropped Earl's clothes off at his house and got him to agree to take Earl home from the hospital. ( The same hospital James was at, in the ER.)
I got back to the Hospital to see about James. They did not want to let me back in, but they did. They had not even cleaned him up. (Blood everywhere). He started bleeding from his elbow and I was grabbing gauze. (I would not make a good nurse. LOL.)
The ER was so busy, they had people in beds in the hall. They finally told us that he did not have any thing broken. He was scraped, cut and bruised in a bunch of places. He has a Haematoma on his left elbow. He looked like a mummy when we left.
We left to go by and get a prescription for him. When I stopped at a red light, I looked over and he was pouring blood from the I V site. Luckily, I had a plastic bag and paper towels in the car. I made a U Turn and booked it back toward the Hospital. I called the Hospital and they met us at the door. They treated him in my car and told us what to do if it happened again. (No thanks, once was enough.)
Finally got James home. At James' I ate a small bag of tuna (90 calories), then left to pick up Heather (James' daughter) from school. She knew something was wrong when she saw me, so I had to tell her what had happened to her Dad.
After that I stopped by to check on Earl. Had to help him with a few things. Luckily, he had a lady coming over to help him for a few hours last night. I went over for a few hours Friday and today, and helped him out some more. Glad he has a lady coming to help him later.
I am slightly exhausted and am hoping I can get some rest tonight.
I think I might need to clone myself. LOL.
Wishing all of you blessings,
Brenda
