Vandalism at Nadeau Open Air base.

Saturday, May 05, 2012

My sister and I enjoy walking at the Andre Nadeau Open Air base. It takes us about 75 minutes to walk the entire circuit. It's a lovely, quiet trail that crosses several streams. It's only about a 12-minute drive from where we each live, so it's a great place to meet and get in a quick health walk when our time is limited. It's free to walk the trails, even though people rent the installations for weddings, family reunions, etc. Today, a group of military cadets was enjoying an outing at the open air base.

Unfortunately, the base has been having problems with vandalism at night. Among other things, some of the tepees were vandalized and two were stolen.

The base is considering hiring a full-time guardian, and charging a fee for walking on the trails to help offset the expense. We'd better enjoy our free trail while we still can!

Wow--a lousy few ruin it for the many. It's the way of the world.

It's nice that you have a great place to walk. Hope it can stay free - both in cost and from vandalism.

What a shame! Vandalism is such a waste... no one wins. On the plus side, what a lovely spot... and may you enjoy it freely while you can.

in my area, more and more of our public parks have started charging 'parking' fees.... these parks aren't all that accessible to begin with . It is sad. More and more quality of life is less and less FREE. Remember when television was most people need cable to get reception. Wait until you need a
kindle to borrow a book from the library

emoticon I agree with what the others have said, and IF they do have to start charging for the use of the Trails, hopefully it will be a nominal fee and you can consider it 'fair' exchange for the Added Security.

Oh, I hope you don't lose your free trail to walk on! Isn't it always the few who wreck things for the rest? Too bad.

Keep walking!

Why is it people vandalize such places? I've heard all the excuses (and that's how I view them) from 'They're kids and don't know any better' to 'They're poor and have no alternatives for their spare time' to 'They're bored and it gives them something to do.' What fun could possibly exist in breaking things? If you can afford spray paint to clutter up the landscape, you could certainly afford some low-cost alternatives. If vandals have no value for public spaces that people enjoy, do they place any value on private property? The lives of pets? People?

Saddened to hear about that, Rej, and I'm with you - make the most of it while you can.

It's sad that some folks don't respect the property of others. It spoils things for everyone!
