Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Saturday, May 05, 2012

Believe it or not, you wouldn't believe this was a holiday here in Mexico. It's not celebrated much. Not like many of the other festivals and such. The religious ones are celebrated the most. You wouldn't even know it was Cinco de Mayo if it weren't for people from the states sending wishes. I think it's an American way for owners of restaurants to make some extra selling margaritas!
But I have offered to take my girlfriend/neighbor....wife of Darryl who is recovering now from his back surgery, out to a place right down the hill where we can get some fun food and drink to celebrate the day and give her a little break. Since her husband is sleeping a lot and she has a cell phone he could call and we could be there in 5 minutes, perhaps it will do her good to get out. And of course we could bring him a treat if he wants one as well. Anyway we will see what happens. If nothing else she can at least get in our hot tub for a bit.
Hope everyone enjoys the day. Are you celebrating Cinco de Mayo where you are?
Enjoy!
Sallie

Taking your friend out most likely was something you both needed. Knowing your friend was home & safe I'm sure the change of atmosphere did you both a lot of good. Take good care. emoticon

I don't think people in the states understand that Cinco d Mayo is not a Nation wide holiday in Mexico. It is specific to the battle of Puebla, maybe like the gettysburg here. We don't really celebrate that full force either..... My old man is from Colima Mexico and He just laughs at the people here celebrating it because it is very commercial and people sell a lot of processed taco shells which He or any of his friends or our neighbors would Never eat. So It is a little funny to see people get so excited about it...... But for us We spent Cinco D Mayo watching the Great Mexican Fighter Canelo Alvarez maintain his Title... Now that was a great Cinco D Mayo Battle night!

Sallie, I bet it would do her a world of good to get out of the house and how nice of you for offering. DH was admitted to the hospital yesterday and my friend came and took me out for a mexican birthday lunch today. It was so wonderful to get away and talk of fun things for a few moments. Thanx so much for the birthday goodie!
