On a Roll, Owning Up

Friday, May 04, 2012

I finally accepted the fact that my nightly wine was probably the biggest roadblock to my weight loss and fitness goals. I was having two glasses of wine every night. Getting a little tipsy would always make me a little snacky too. So the extra calories from the wine + the extra calories from the snacks were not doing me any favors. Add to the fact that I would wake up dehydrated, headachy and not refreshed, making working out seem like a nightmare. There would be times that I would vow not to drink and the next day would be refreshed and ready to go! But I would always fall back into my old habit of thinking I "deserved a drink" after I had been good for a few days. The all or nothing approach was not working for me.

I recently found a Spark Team dedicated to drinking less and decided to finally own up to what was really keeping me down. Since joining that group I have been on a roll with my calorie intake and have not had a drink! Granted it's only been two days, but I feel great and am on a roll. The simple act of writing out my goals, posting them in the message boards and having support from others was all I needed to take control of my actions. I have a wedding this weekend where I know I will have a few drinks, but that's okay. The key is to keep it to a "few" drinks. With my newfound support and dedication I know I will be just fine! Thanks to the total strangers who offer uncondtional support to one another!

I'm like you in that it wasn't only the calories from the drinks but the 'snacky' montster in me that comes out when I drink (I crave all the junk food - chips, greasy stuff - all the things I don't have as a norm anymore - except - when I drink).

Happy to have you on board the team and I know you will do great with 'moderation' over the weekend!

Many times people don't realize that there is a problem. You should be extremely proud of yourself for acknowledging it and doing something to fix it! You are strong and can do this! Hang in there!
