Day 123: Shock Therapy

Thursday, May 03, 2012

I feel like I need some shock therapy about now. I don't know what's wrong with me this week. I started off at a great new low but still, all week I've been hungry and lazy, and now I'm back at my 166. I need to shake off this negative black cloud that is hovering.

I've done a few things that I've been putting off to maybe help me along the way. One is making an OB/GYN appointment, and one is making an appointment to get my hair cut. Both had probably been put off for so long because of my weight gain. I had hated going to get my hair cut with that lighting that shows everything and I just felt embarrassed. She knew me before the steroids and weight gain and I just felt like the weight gain was the elephant in the room. And with the OB/GYN I had kept putting that off because I had been going to so many doctors I couldn't stand to go to another one and then when I was done with so many doctors there was a fear to go just in case something was wrong, I couldn't stand that either. But time is up. I have to go. It's been since 2010. So, I have an appointment on the 17th to go the OB/GYN and I've left a few messages for my hair girl. Not sure if she's out of town or not. I may end up just calling someone else before I end up letting it go again. It's been way too long. It's been over a year since I've had my hair cut. Crazy I know. It really doesn't look bad though. lol! It was cut short last time I did have it done. But it needs it. lol!

I also wonder if I need to do the unthinkable and give up my audio books for awhile. At least the ones that aren't learning ones or upbeat ones. I wonder if I carry the mood of the story with me. Like now I'm listening to a Jodi Picoult story and it's about a school shooting. I know I've always been very affected by people's moods and feelings, where I become sad if I'm with someone sad, or at least it's a battle not to. I wonder if it's happening with the books as well. Is that crazy? I just noticed if I listen to a nice "life is great" book then life is great, but if I listen to a "life is blown to hell" book, then life isn't so great and I just don't know why or can't put a finger on it. It's just a theory and maybe just a coincidence. I'm just trying to figure it out.

Time to weigh in!

I am also affected by my surroundings. This is why I do not watch the news! It's so depressing.

It is also the reason why I have cut so many toxic people out of my life.

I am proud of you for looking into solutions to improve your well-being. Keep on growing :)

Not crazy at all. Some people gravitate to the books or music that fit their mood and other's flow with the emotions expressed in the books and music. If you find you're too often left in the negative, you might want to make a list of some of the most uplifting things you've read or heard and use those as a "chaser" to follow anything that brings you down.

You might have something there about the books. I know what you mean about your hair I just made an appointment for next week! Have a great day Sara!

I think you're right Sara. Ditch the sad depressing books on tape. That would bring me down in a hurry. I'm proud of you for deciding that it's time for some new hair. Nothing makes me feel better than brand new hair! Happy Thursday Sara. Keep smiling!

It's interesting how what is around us affects us in such a way. That is why I eliminated the negative influences in my life (people). If you aren't positive I don't want to be around you. I love Jodi Picoult books but they can be a bit dark.

Good for you for making the OB/GYN appointment. It's probably the only appointment I make sure I make each year.

I am affected by what I read, the media and the people in the room... Some of us are empathic sponges.

You are still doing well and will get over this bump! Hugs

I think it is true if you listen and hear negative things, your mood tends to follow. And is it just me, or does the negative seem to stick around longer than the positive? I'm trying to change that because I've been a little off. I know why I'm off and why I'm sad, but I need to fight this and so do you. And you will. Pop in a positive audio book, listen to some of your favorite upbeat songs, and any do anything that brings you joy. I'm about to go hop on the treadmill because it's raining. I need to step up on the exercise to fight the blues.

I hope your day goes well and may the positive vibes I'm sending your way reach you!!
Keep smiling Sara!! emoticon

I'm totally affected by that stuff too. I know there are people that can handle watching or listening to anything, but I'm definitely not one of them. I know God created me that way for a reason so I'm trying to embrace the fact that when I fill myself with positive, life-giving messages that I, in turn, end up leaking that out all over. It's worth a try to give it a month and see how you feel. And good for you, for taking care of you!! Loving yourself and pampering yourself is awesome shock therapy!! Have a little grace for yourself! You are doing so amazingly! Your body may be doing a little catch up. Years ago when I lost 50 pounds in a short amount of time, I actually got sick. Our bodies store toxins in our fat and when we lose the fat, toxins start floating around our bodies, I read that plateaus can sometimes be our bodies ways of protecting ourselves. Just a thought!
