How do you keep and/or best use the motivation high?

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

I don't know why sometimes everything falls into place and it's SO EASY and SO STRAIGHT-FORWARD to say no to the excess calories.

But I LOVE it when it happens!!

This week certainly fits that description. I went out to a pub for dinner last night and not only did I not have anything to drink (besides water!) I ordered a meal off the "healthy" menu rather than going for a burger. And my reasoning was, "the burger will have fries and I'll only eat them".

I mean, seriously. That was my reasoning.

(My meal was lamb souvlaki and greek salad, and it was AWESOME, by the way.)

Everything feeds into everything else. I'm additionally motivated to save money, because I'm planning a holiday next January which will make a major dent in my savings otherwise, so I've decided to stop buying coffee every day. I'm keeping things largely neat and organised at home. I'm taking the time to pre-prepare lunches. I'm motivated at work.

It's impossible to know how to trigger this sort of thing. Last time it happened I tried to come up with ways to keep myself going after it inevitably faded, but I guess that didn't work out for me.

Anyone have any ideas? How do I hang onto this motivation? How do I best use it so it serves me well in the long term?

Go for a streak of 3-4 days of eating right, then give yourself a little (very little) slack for a treat, then go for another 3-4 days.

Set mini, achievable, measurable goals, and over time, they'll add up to your body WANTING to eat better

Good luck!

    Start a streak :)
Write down goals or track them on spark.
Motivation will run out eventually, hopefully later not sooner (until then, enjoy it :)).
Determination will keep you going.
Results from that determination will help you find motivation again.

Small attainable goals.
Rewards for making the right choices.
Like- stick to calorie range for one week= buy a magazine
- lose 2 pounds= watch my favorite show and paint my toenails.
I am sure you can come up with better ones hehe
