Good bye baby bottles!!

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

So the twins are 13 months now - time to get rid of the bottles and get them using those sippy cups!!I've been offering them the sippy cups at meal times for a bit now but they refuse to use them. So on the weekend I filled 2 of them with just water and then put their milk in the sippy cups. They had a choice - water OR no bottle.

They were extremely resistant at 1st but Zander broke down a bit after lunch and switched over to sippy cups. Liam was much more stubborn. He waited til close to supper and then barely drank any, just enough satisfy him for a minute and then back to drinking his bottle of water.

I decided that I would give them a bottle of milk right before bed as part of a new routine. Since cutting their 1st year molars their sleep patterns have been all over the place. Now that they're pretty much done teething again for now - it's been hard getting them down for the night at a decent time, and they still like to get up through the night once in a while =[

Day 2 went much better. Zander caved quite quickly. He grabbed his bottle of water and tried a sip, realized it had no milk, threw it aside and grabbed his sippy cup and drank most of it down with not much problems. Liam started out not complaining and just drinking his bottle but soon realized Zander was ok with his sippy cup so he tried his again. He didn't drink as much as his brother but it was still progress. Zander was almost back up to the same amount of milk consumed as he would've drank before when he was on bottles. Liam was about half way to drinking what he normally did.

Monday was Day 3 - drinking habits were normal again and they don't fuss at all when they see their cup, they just grab it and drink it.

Tuesday Day 4 - a bit more difficult cuz the one kid I watch is a bit younger and still on bottles so it was the mad dash around the house making sure everyone is drinking the right stuff lol. Didn't take too long before the twins figured it out that they couldn't have his bottle and they actually accepted it!!

Currently I still do the bottle right before bedtime just so that they know it's bedtime and it's been helping them to settle and to sleep through the night. Although I'm still awake now (almost 3am) but it's cuz Zander is cutting his K9's and has been awake from the pain off and on - also waking his brother Liam with his crying.

Tomorrow (or today - depending on how you look at it) is going to be a tough day food wise and exercise wise. Always is when I spend half the night up. I wish it was my short day instead of the day after. I have a feeling I'm going to want to have a big nap lol. Oh well. Maybe the twins will allow me to go to bed early - HAHAHA ya right!!
