Island Weekend

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

This Friday - Monday had me out on the island for a retreat. Thankfully this was not a retreat for which I had many responsibilities as the island was more or less rented out to a church group. When this happens, I don't have to deal with menus, shopping, kitchen staff and the canteen. I do still have to take the official photos of the camp for our website, but that doesn't take too much of my time.

I planned well for this weekend by taking a few books to read, my favorite Bible (Women's Study Bible), lots of snacks for the boys, a notebook and pen, and my walking shoes! I read a difficult book all in Portuguese about the scientist, Tycho Brahe. It had very high level vocabulary and I almost gave up, but made it through and ended up enjoying it. I may have even learned a new word or two!

I got in a 5 km hike. My youngest and I accompanied my oldest who frequently guides campers on hikes around the island. We went on a 2 km hike to a place called Crystal Beach on the far side of our camp. I took the lead as I was trying to keep a swift pace and made it to the beach in 23 minutes. The path is not rough, but rather rocky and in places very sandy. On our return we took a different route along the beach to get back to the main campground. It took us about 40 minutes.

Resting up today and taking care of little things around the house! Take care!
