First for Everything!

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

This is my first blog...EVER! Never thought i'd do it; didn't think I had the words, but I think I can find some. Time to think outside of that box I've put myself in.

Another first: I am going to attempt: my FIRST 5K....EVER! I said I would never do it; tried to find as many excuses as I possibly could ( I can't, I hate to run, breasts are too big, etc. etc., etc., ) but watching my daughter on her track team and all those others running all over the place, it made me think that yes, maybe I CAN do this! Maybe it's not so bad. Maybe I should stop saying I can't, stop finding excuses, and just do it. So my first step in training was for my mind, not my body.

I'm ALWAYS encouraging my daughter, telling her that she can do anything, and 'can't' should not be in our vocabulary, but wasn't taking my own advise!

Well, I've decide to put an end to that. I'm going to do this race. I know I can, I know I can!

TO BE CONTINUED.... emoticon

YOU DID A GREAT JOB ON YOUR BLOG. I REMEMBER MY FIRST TIME, WHICH WAS NOT TO LONG AGO.

I CAN'T RUN. I AM 63 AND I HAVE ARTHRITIS, I CAN ONLY WALK. I ENVY YOU THAT. BEST WISHES ON IT. THINK OF ME WHEN YOU ARE DOING IT. LOVE JOYCE

The Couch to 5K group is awesome. It helped me get ready for my first 5K. I walked a lot of it, but finished in 50 minutes exactly. The feeling you get when you cross that finish line is like no other.

You can do anything you put your mind to. emoticon

Woohoo! I told myself I was not a runner my entire life. In 2009 I decided I needed something INTENSE if I was ever going to get back to a healthy weight range so I started running for weight loss. 3 years later I'm an ADDICT...I LOVE running...for so much more than the weight loss aspect it can give...it just makes you feel GOOD. I used the couch to 5k plan successfully and then ambitiously moved into Hal Higdon's Half marathon training. You can SO do this and you will be so proud of yourself when you finish that race! :) Enjoy your journey!

Congrats on your first blog! And planning a 5K! Woohoo. Thanks for the goodie. Love that photo of you and your daughter on your page. So smart of you to encourage her that she can do anything she can do anything she sets as a goal.

My daughter ran a 5k in December, she trained for it with the "Girls on the Run" organization. She completed her run in under 20 minutes and she was jogging. You will do great Sherry I will be cheering you on, and remember you can run or walk its not a race. I have always learned its a lot easier to meet small goals you set for yourself then big ones.

Now my next goal is to try and be my daughters running buddy in her next 5K.

Wow - that's awesome! I have a few friends that want to do a 5k here in October. They suggested the couch to 5k for me (no I haven't started it yet). Everyone seems to swear by it. Maybe it will help.
