Happy Anniversary to Me...NOT!

(Personal musings reflecting a year of nothing)

Well, I see by accident that yesterday was my one-year Spark anniversary. This fact really took me by surprise and, I must say, seriously set me back on my heels.

Progress to date: 0

Starting weight: 185. Current weight: 183.4. Woooooo-hoo!
Obvious problems: COMMITMENT & CONSISTENCY

Lose two pounds - gain three - lose one - gain one - etc. Net progress: 0.
Exercise two days - sit three - etc. - Net progress: 0

Sub-Problem #1: I hate tracking and really just can't come up with the discipline to do it. I've tried online tracking, paper tracking, simple check marks on a little calendar, you name it. Folks seem pretty universally agreed that you have to track to make progress, but I just can't seem to make it happen.

Sub-Problem #2: Meniscus repair and, it turns out, seriously arthritic knees have drastically changed the complexion of what I do for exercise. I was a walker before this happened last September, so now that's out, and I haven't managed to find an enjoyable substitute. I have a recumbent bike in the basement which really doesn't do much for me. On the plus side, two or three days a week I do a water exercise class, which is really fun and has helped my poor knees a lot. I think this is the only reason I don't weigh even more today than I did a year ago.

Sub-Problem #3: I'm already stuck in front of a computer too many hours a day because of my teaching, so what do I do when I don't have planning or grading to do? Sit more hours in front of a computer (like now).

I wouldn't say I'm in the depths of despair, but I am seriously disappointed in myself and working toward whatever it takes to begin again.

    Good for you on the swimmng. Great exercise & a stress relaxer. It takes a while to form new habits...but you can do it! Progress will happen!

    Water exercise is a very good form of exercise. I can't swim, so that's out for me. Tracking in the beginning is important, although it's a pain sometimes. Later you can estimate.

    I was a teacher so I know how much time that takes.
