Week 1 Weigh-in

Friday, April 27, 2012

First things first: I changed my username. I figure I'm quixotic_hope everywhere else on the web (well, that or the shortened version - quix689), so I might as well be that here. Besides, it felt weird saying that my name is Katie when my username is Kaliya.

Now on to the real post:

I've been weighing myself almost every day, and I've finally decided to stop doing that and only weigh myself once a week like you're supposed to. Since I last recorded my weight here last Friday, I figured I would just stick with that and make Friday my weigh-in day. Every Friday, regardless of what the scale says, I will report here. I need some accountability, so if anyone reads this and then sees that I didn't post on Friday, please drop a comment and ask what's up.

Week 1:
Starting weight: 289
Current weight: 287.4

That's 1.6 pounds lost this week, which I'm really excited about. That brings me to 4.6 pounds total since I started trying more vegan foods. Now that I've actually looked around the Spark site some more, I'm starting to find this whole thing fun. Part of the reason why I joined Weight Watchers last year was because I liked the little charts it gave you and the stars you got when you lost weight. Now I can look at my little graph here and get points and level up, and it's free!

I don't know why I didn't give this a proper shot before. I guess I was so used to Weight Watchers and their points system that I didn't want to learn something new. I know that 1 cup of pasta is 5 PP and 1/2 cup of spaghetti sauce is 3 points. I have no idea what the calories of either are. But you know what? I'll learn. I learned the points system. I can definitely learn this. No more trying to do complicated math trying to guesstimate how many points are in something.

I also watched "Forks Over Knives" last night. I had seen a few people on here talk about it, and I wanted to see what it was all about. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It's definitely helped me realize that my choice to go vegan is the right one. It's also giving me the kick I need to stop eating meat and animal products in general, not just when I'm at home.
