Taking a back seat to my cold

Friday, April 27, 2012

All this week I've been battling a cold. I officially threw in the towel the other day as my opponent is just too strong! It all started on Monday when I woke up with a pain in my throat when I swallowed. I'm prone to throat infections and have battled laryngitis all my life. This quickly developed into an achy joint feeling and the cloudy balloon head feeling that makes it so hard to concentrate. My voice is officially gone now :( The coughing has made my abs, chest and back hurt. I tried to determine who or what the culprit is to my getting sick, but meh...I've got it so now what?

I'm a creature of habit so it's hard to adjust my lifestyle to my cold. The Doctors I've seen say to get plenty of rest and fluids. Nobody rules out exercise as that can help you overcome cold symptoms. A good sweat to detox your body! I was told to tone it down and maybe go for a walk compared to plyo drills or going for a jog. I was so hoping to start my 5K training this week as well. I have to get it out of my head the "all or nothing" mentality I have. If not this week then next week. It's not procrastinating, it's detouring a road block. I'll get back on course.

I'm feeling a bit deflated at the moment as it's hard to not have that "rush" as a start to the day. I definitely don't like the lack of energy. I felt winded getting my jacket on and bringing my day bag to the car in the mornings. But I'm not going to derail my recovery by "pushing" myself. I've done this in the past and ended up making myself more sick.

I'm getting blood work done tomorrow morning and then I vowed to take the weekend to relax with the time I have not running errands. The blood test is important as I want to make sure that now that I'm not eating meat, I'm not deficient in any essential vitamins or other nutrients.

Another note I wanted to add was that I changed my calorie intake for my nutrition tracker. I wasn't eating enough calories so I adjusted it to my activity level. I am feeling better (when I'm not sick) following the meals this site customizes for me. I only make slight alterations.

My aim is to stay slim but put on 5-10lbs to fill me out proportionately with lean muscle.

Best get to bed as its going to be an early day tomorrow!
