Cinque Terre

Friday, April 27, 2012

DH and I took a road trip overnight.
We spent a night in a spectacular hotel in the beautiful small historical city of Lucca, in the Tuscany region.
I checked Booking.com before we left and got a $180 room for $99 (actually Euros but I tend to just think of them as dollars) which included an amazing full breakfast buffet- including Mimosas! emoticon

Then we drove over to the coast to the Cinque Terre, where we hiked a tiny portion of the trails and then took a boat ride to see more of the 5 villages.
The towns are built into the mountains so I bet I went up and down thousands of steps today. I took a bath and 2 ibuprofen tonight- hope my hips don't punish me tomorrow.

My pics will never do it justice so here's a link:

I always use a moisturizer with sunscreen and wore a long sleeve tshirt but forgot to do my chest so I got a bit of a sunburn there.
DH (who rarely will use suncreen because he says it makes him feel slimy) has a red face. The sun was brilliant and it was a perfect 75*F.

We are having a blast!
It's almost 10 here now- I need my beauty sleep!

I hope you drove in a tiny, Italian convertible, with sexy sunglasses and you in a scarf wrapped 'round your head and neck.

Well, that's how I picture it. Sounds awesome.

DD was in Cinque Terre a few years back and totally loved it too.

Maybe your DH would prefer one of those spray sports type sun screens: Coppertone makes a super one, absolutely "dry" and slime free, in SPF 30 and 50. I really like it for the golf course since otherwise my hands are too slippery on the club . . .

I loved Cinque Terre but we did a day trip from Florence which wasn't the right thing to do. Too much time on a bus. And when we were there in September it was way too hot. Sounds like you had perfect weather. We hiked the whole trail. I think I remember putting an unbelievable amount of steps on my pedometer that day. something like 23,000 if I recall right.
So glad to hear you are having a great time.
Enjoy!

The Cinque Terre is definitely on my "must see" list. I've been to Rome, the Amalfi Coast and Capri, but want to see more of Italy asap! Have a great time and I hope you enjoy every minute.
