OK, you're driving down the road with the wind in your hair (visualize nice day and a convertible) and all of a sudden you see a detour sign. Uh oh, this isn't good. Now what will happen? How much extra time will this tack onto my drive? Hey, I have someplace to BE!

This is pretty much what happens when you hit a detour on a road that is unfamiliar to you. This detour is a BIG ISSUE. BIG!

But, if you know the area and you've driven this detour before it's nothing more than in inconvenience. Maybe no fun but you know what to do, how much extra time it will take you to get back to your planned path. It's annoying but no big deal.

That's what this past week was for me. A detour in familiar country. This week a lot of different things didn't happen as I was hoping they would with the result that the scale went the wrong direction. But, because I've been doing this for a while, I've done this before so I'm not freaked out. Not happy but not freaked. And when I look back over the week, I knew I was being detoured as the week unfolded. I counted this morning and I ate away from home 8 times! That's tough to manage. And although my focus this past week was on portion control I made some slips.

The cool thing is I know this detour and I know how to get back on track. It's a new week for me....this week, to continue on my current healthy living path, I plan on measuring my foods about 50% of the time. I haven't done that in over a year and I think I'm playing fast and loose with my portion sizes.

I'll let you know how I do...but this past week, oops. The scale went UP.

The good news is that we can take these detours and still find our way home. Try to look back at some of the really fun and good times that came out of your week and move forward.

I feel like we are the lucky ones and not some of the bugs in the insect world who live such short lives - why I have the praying mantis in my line of vision here, I don't know.... (oh if only you could see the face I just made - I am trying to make you laugh!). Have a great day, and do something special for yourself. You are so worth it!

Love the concept - it fits so well. When we know the detour, we don't really get lost because we know the roads back!

I sure understand where you are coming from. I just had a little talk with myself this morning about why the scale is not moving. I have every opportunity to eat right and exercise during this time when my DH isn't here. I only had to eat out twice with my FIL for his birthday and then his fried oysters. I haven't been drinking beers like I sometimes do when my husband is here. I have been logging all my food and staying around 1000-1200 calories. I have been low on salt. I have been doing 10,000 steps per day and bowflex 3 times per week. I really want to get the last 3 pounds off before heading up to the states so that I have some cushion and can eat out with the kids and grandkids and perhaps have a beer or two. But something isn't right. I am not losing at all. I feel like I am doing everything right too. So frustrating. I know 3 pounds doesn't sound like much but I have a very very small frame. My wrists only measure 5"...so I can't figure out what the heck is up. Anyway, I too am going to look at my portion size and cut back even more. That's the only thing I can figure to do.
Sorry for the rant. Just wanted you to know I feel your pain!
    Let's do this!
    We can do it!
