Plateau Blues :-(

Thursday, April 26, 2012

So I have been the same weight for about 6 months. However, I did start an exercise challenge in January which has helped me to lose about 2 pants sizes and gain LOTS of strength and endurance. My arms, shoulders, neck, face, (AKA entire upper body) doesn't seem like it has an ounce of fat on it. All of it resides on my belly. My Legs are toned and I feel like they look great as well.

My belly is another story. I absolutely cannot lose any more of the fat on my stomach. It wont budge. I have raised my calorie intake, lowered my calorie intake, added more variety to my diet, tried doing 4-5 small meals instead of 2-3 big meals. I have also tried the big breakfast, medium lunch and small dinner idea. I have tried every combination.

I do a body step aerobics class 4 days (which last 60 mins) a week at the gym, and then tabata intervals 1-2 days per week (which is a 30 min workout). These workouts are very intense and I push myself every time. I never work out less than 5 days per week. And still... nothing.

I haven't lost any inches anywhere in over 2 months! Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to give up and eat a bunch of food because that's counter-productive. I just don't know why my body wont just be normal. Keep in mind... I have lost 70 pounds since I was 16, the last 40 were lost in the past 2 years. So I have extra skin and I can't tell if this is fat or if it's skin or just a bad combination of both that is just being extra difficult.

I'm sure nobody sees what I see but I am just getting bummed out. I feel like I am working so hard and i'm still completely unable to reach my goal. I can't lose the last 6 pounds. But honestly... I don't care if I lose any pounds... I just want to see some difference in measurements, body fat % or pictures or something.

I weigh myself everyday just to keep myself motivated and I only see minor fluctuations up and down. No increases... but no decreases either. Any advice or encouragement is appreciated.

I haven't hit a serious plateau yet (I am down 17 of a projected 85 pounds) but this is my plan for busting through a plateau...

It might be skin ... my partner lost 130 lbs about 9 years ago, and while he is thin, looks great, has a BMI around 23-24, is in great shape, little fat on most of his body, he still has a weird dangly belly thing. It seems fatter because it has more skin and is in a smaller area, than if it was spread out.

Change up the intensity of your exercise. Do different kinds of exercise through the week. If you walk, change you up your routes. Widarling is right when you think you are going to get on that scale and it won't budge, boom you have drop several pounds. One thing are you getting enough sleep? That will affect you. Are your meals balanced? Those two things can cause your weigh to hold if you aren't getting enough rest and a truly balance diet. Are you tracking your foods? If so go back and see if there are some places you can improve or if there a parts of you meals that are lacking. Good luck. You look great by the way.

Hang in there, change your exercise routine. Make sure your drinking enough water. Stay away from suger drinks. Just when you are not expecting it. You will see the scale move. God bless. emoticon
