A visit from mom

Thursday, April 26, 2012

So my mom came to visit me this past week (Thurs-Tues). Overall, it was a wonderful time. The only problem was trying to keep up with my sparkpeople! I showed her the website and all the stuff you can do with it, and she really liked it. She even did the saturday weigh-in with us. She referred to herself as a bad influence since we had dessert a lot. It is true in one sense, but I could have said no, so in the end it was all on me. The weather was kinda crappy, so we didn't get to go out as much as I had hoped. Oh well, the important part was that I spent time with her! While she was here she did all of my laundry (like 12 loads!!).

Thursday: I picked her up from the airport then we immediately went for a walk and had a good lunch at panera. Spent the night relaxing and planning what to do. Also, went to cheesecake factory. I had my favorite, chicken madiera. And, I only ate half, so I was good. But then we were bad and took home cheesecakes. I meant to only eat half, but it was so delicious I ate the whole thing! Oh dear.

Friday: My boyfriend took the day off to spend with us since the weather was absolutely beautiful and rain was forecasted for the rest of the week. We had a leisurely morning, then headed to the metro around 11am. First, I took them around the outdoor sculpture garden at the national mall. Then, we walked up Pennsylvania Ave. to Old Ebbit's Grill (fairly famous pub in DC, open since 1856). I had a grilled chicken sandwich and 4 glasses of unsweetened iced tea. So far so good! Then we walked up to the nearest metro and took it to Cleveland Park. We walked down to the zoo and all around the zoo. But alas, there were no animals. no lions. no tigers. no panda bears. (oh my). no elephants. ect. ect. I saw some cheetahs, but that was about it. from there we walked down to Dupont Circle and had homemade ice cream at Larry's. We walked over 6 miles. All in all, a great day. I only got a little sunburnt since we stopped for sunscreen by the mall!

Me and my bf at the zoo. I was the closest thing to a tiger!

Saturday: Weigh-in time! I was only down 0.4 lbs. But, considering I had ice cream and cheesecake... it's not so bad! The real test will be next saturday!! We met up my bf's mom and step-dad at an irish pub for lunch (first time my mom meeting them!) It was good, I had another grilled chicken sandwich and unsweetened iced tea. Then we went to Costco and a bunch of other places. Ended up walking like 2 miles. We watched Immortals when we got home.

Sunday: We went to the movies to see Wrath of the Titans, and I had the "lighter snack" popcorn which actually isn't too bad when you compare it to the other stuff on the menu. AMC actually has caloric values listed on the snack bar menu, which was really cool (and sad)!! The lighter popcorn was without butter but still tasty. Afterward, we shopped a bunch at the mall and had panera for lunch/dinner. Another 2 miles or so of walking.

Monday: I took mom to Georgetown to see my lab and to meet my mentor and labmates. Then we walked down M street and got cupcakes from Sprinkles. Then we were back at the mall and I got a much needed haircut. Thai food for dinner. I love thai food!

Definitely feeling guilty after those, but man were they tasty (as good as the ones I make!)

Tuesday: took her to the airport )=

I have a feeling that this Saturday's weigh-in might be tough, but damn was this week tasty! I've been going to the gym to try to counteract it all, plus all the walking, so hopefully I come out even, at least!

Have a great weigh in, and don't kill yourself if it is not that good. It is the perseverance that finally makes the success!
