Help-Advice Needed!!

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

I recently started a new job after being laid off from my other one. Its in retail which means I went from and 8-5, m-f to all kinds of crazy hours and days off....I need some help/advice on how to adjust to this new schedule and get back on the exercising regularly...I am feeling very overwhelmed with the new schedule...I get help at home with cleaning. laundry etc so thats not the problem...Granted, I have only been working a week so I know it will take some time but the question is how do I get started to get back on the right track?

Thanks for listening....

I walk on my breaks when I can and pre-plan my meals before I go to work. I also just schedule my exercise around my work schedule. If I have to work in the early morning (very unusual) I exercise in the afternoon. I do have one day a week that I am "unavailable" to work because of my Sweet Adelines chorus rehearsal so I make that a complete rest day actually, though I've considered changing it to be my long run. I just have to treat exercising like anything else I want to do and work it around my work schedule. It can be a bit annoying and even a bit stressful at times but there's nothing to be done about it. My exercise and eating well are necessary and like everything else that's necessary to me I make a way for it to happen.

You can do it, girl! Just hang in there!!!

my son has been going through this too for almost a year now. The same kind of change. He gets up in time to eat breakfast at home and on days when he goes in late he gets some exercise in. We make his lunch no matter what too but sometimes he eats it at home and eats a yogurt at work and sometimes he takes his lunch to work if he goes in after noon. He eats when he gets home. If he gets off early he goes and exercises at the Gym.

OH BOY, I HAVE BEEN THERE BUT IT HAS BEEN AWHILE, I ALSO WORKED RETAIL, ALL HOURS, I AM AFRAID THAT IS ABOUT THE TIME I STARTED GAINING WEIGHT, SO I GUESS I DON'T HAVE ANY GOOD ADVICE TO GIVE, BUT JUST BE CAREFUL, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER AND EAT HEALTHY, ESPECIALLY IF IT GETS STRESSFUL.

Congrats on your new job. Take some time to adjust to the changes, rearranging your entire routine to fit the new circumstances is quite challenging. One thing I have to say - visiting a gym during "weird" hours gives you much more free space to work with!

First, sorry to hear about you getting laid off. But kudos for wanting to get right back on the horse. Keeping active will help you deal with the stresses that come with adjusting to a new job and routine.
I don't know how much exercise you were doing before this, but how about just starting with 10 minutes of walking whenever you can fit it in? Some days it might be easy to fit in 2 or even 3 of these 10-minute sessions, whereas other days you'll be lucky to squeeze in one of these walks. That's okay, because as you get more accustomed to this new lifestyle, you'll fit in more and longer walks.
Good luck to you both in your new job and your continued efforts at improving your health! emoticon

Take your breaks and use them wisely. Walk the stairs when you can and just be patient with yourself. Being that it is the first week and you are already reaching out to get this in control tells me you will succeed in your healthy journey. Congratulations on the new job!!!
