I went to the 5th grade Hershey track meet today. Wow! some of those kids are fast. The winner of the 400 m had a time of 1:10. In the 200 m 30 seconds. The 100 m 15 seconds. 800 m about 3:20.
I was reminded of an important lesson. Run your own race. It's sad to see kids win their heat only to find that their time wasn't good enough. Especially when they slowed down just before the finish line because they were ahead of the others. It's great to see kids who give it their all even though most of the others have finished the race.
We are not all the same. Some of us start fast and then lose momentum. Some of us start slow, run behind a ways and then race to the lead. Some of us just aren't fast, but we can maintain a steady pace for the long haul.
Whatever you do in life, run your own race.
