I have to post my Princess Race Report in 2 parts because it was such an Epic Trip for me (and hopefully Laurie too!) We have been making a lot of road trips for races together, but this was one that we have been planning, saving, dreaming of for a LONG time now. Packing alone was surreal to me because I honestly didn’t think this trip was going to happen. I should have known that with faith, trust and a little bit of Pixie Dust, my Running Fairy (and her handsome assistant) would find a way. Off we went into the wild blue yonder to Orlando to join up with the thousands of other Princesses who were out to earn their tiaras. I have some many wonderful memories, and great stories that I will NEVER tell, and hundreds of pictures from our trip. I think that I am so lucky to have my MIL be my running partner and one of my very best friends. And Laurie made sure to point out our "In-Law" status to everyone from the poor people on the bus to the bartenders at the Silver Screen Spirits at All Star Movies!
Anyway, our first day was spent resort hopping. We flew down a day earlier than planned so we didn’t splurge on an extra day on our park tickets cuz that was $200 we put to better use (Raglan Road LOL). Never fear, we found ways to entertain ourselves! We went to the Polynesian and got lei’ed. Then we headed over to one of Laurie’s favorite secret spots at Wilderness Lodge. We checked out Animal Kingdom Lodge (Now that is a COOL place!), and then headed to Downtown Disney for supper and a then a few beers at our Happy Place: Raglan Road. Turns out the night we were there they were having Live Irish Dancing and that was a LOT of fun to watch! I also discovered the effects of humidity on my now long hair as it kept growing bigger and bigger and bigger…
The next day we killed the morning hours off at Hollywood Studios. I wanted make sure I got to do Tower of Terror at least once! After lunch we headed over to the Fit for a Princess Expo and Packet Pick Up. We decided to do both the 5K and the Half so we had to hit up both pick up areas. I also learned the importance of remembering to submit a finishing time! Highlight of the day was meeting Jeff Galloway! I got to talk to him about running with MS and received some great advice to keep me from getting too fatigue during my run. Meeting him pretty much cemented my decision to train for a Full. I had been tossing the idea around for quite some time now, but I decided to let Laurie in on my intentions. (I don’t think that she was all that surprised). After carbing up with some Sam Adams, we headed to bed since we had to be up early for the 5K.
Did you know that 4 am is really early? We had to wake up and catch a bus over to Epcot for the Tangled Royal Family 5K. This ‘race’ was so much fun. In fact, we shut off our Garmins and just ran it for the pure fun of the experience of running around World Showcase. We were kind of shocked really at the freeing feeling we got from shutting off the timing gadgets and just running! Speaking of surprises, I am still amazed and grateful to all of our fellow runners who stopped in the middle of THEIR run to offer to take a picture for us so that we could both be in the shot! To all of those strangers, I just have to say a HUGE thank you! Don’t ask what our time was because I have no idea. Ask me how much fun we had doing it, and I will tell you more than I could put into words here!
After the race, we headed back to the bus to the resort to shower and hit up another park. That is where I will start Part two of the Princess Race Report. Until then, I will leave you with a FEW pictures.
