Sometimes the universe gives you a sign

I have been doing a lot of baking. All kinds of baking. Grew my own sourdough starter and baked my first loaves of bread last night. Started working on my brownie recipe for my business I dream of opening. Well to avoid eating all of said brownies I have been giving them away to a friend who took them to work. The first was a chocolate brownie with toasted hazelnuts. Yes, it was as good as it sounds. One of his employees tried to steal it they said it was so good. He told me he had to defend it because people went so crazy for it. Then I made a chocolate brownie and put pockets of all natural peanut butter in the middle. They were quite heavy and let me tell you. Even better than the hazelnut version. Once I went to natural peanut butter I never went back and there was something about the sweetness of the brownie that played off the earthiness of the unsweetened peanut butter that just really worked. I have also been experimenting with cooking with raw cane sugar to make it less horrible for you, if that is possible emoticon. It made the brownies have this dense chewiness that I really like.
I was doing all of this for fun figuring I would blog about it but then he called me today and told me that again he had to defend his brownie, which was enormous, and that one of his coworkers asked if he could place an order!!!! You do not get more of a sign from the cosmos than that. ASHLEY SELL YOUR FLIPPIN BROWNIES. No more self sabotage and fear of failure. One thing I have learned being unemployed is that I want to be self employed. I hate being a 9-5 person. This can work. People with much less talent and knowledge make it work. I can't let fear stop me. I moved to Boston alone to start a new life and I didn't let fear stop me. I can make a dessert company work!

I love to bake. I used to dream of having my own bakery. I say used to because I gave up on that dream several years ago. But yeah I have all these old family recipes that would make some great items in a bakery.

I love making homemade bread also....nothing like kneading your own bread.....or mixing up a batch of cookies or brownies by hand. And I love decorating cakes with old fashioned piped butter cream frosting.

You've got me dreaming again lol.

The internet makes this kind of entrepreneurial business doable! Best of luck to you-- make sure you're internet savvy and use it to promote your product and take orders. Your brownies sound amazing.

Sounds like a dream job to me! If I weren't so happy in retirement, I'd do the same. As it is, I bake for pot lucks and Church functions and do a huge blitz at Christmas for gifts. It's not a job if you enjoy it! emoticon

You can always try it for a little bit by baking some and selling them. See if you like it. Sometimes it is very frustrating and demanding and sometimes it is awesome. A friend of mine always makes goodies by the order, literally, people tell her exactly which of her goodies they want her to make for the holidays and she makes them to purchase. The problems she has been is the timing with her family and sometime winter illnesses and events.

I wish you all the luck and happiness. I have always dreamed of being good enough to make food for others. I love to cook and experiment.

By the way, brownies are my weakness. I would never be able to make so many wonderful delights and then easily pass them on. How amazing!

My daughter is works long hours and is always looking for healthy entrees that she can pick up for dinner. A little shop has opened here where you can do just that and you just heat it up in the oven. You might think about adding entrees to your new venture. Good luck to you.

Good luck! I've been self employed for the past 2 years and I wouldn't go back to a 9 to 5 job for anything! It's tough being the boss, but SO worth it!

Its great to hear about your experience. Congratulations! I just concluded this weekend that I need to get my own baking business together. I already have an order for a wedding cake in September and my family has been telling me I need to do this for years. So, I've written down all of my tried and true cakes/desserts and now I have to price them. Also my oven is sloped, so I have to get it leveled. Family doesn't care, but buyers will. And I just (today) signed up for a cake decorating course so I can learn to do some spectacular decorating as opposed to my basic. Let me know how it goes for you. Perhaps we can trade info.

Best of luck to you!

OMG, can I just say my mouth started to water, I would COME and buy your PB Brownies!! That sounded so good. I actually went to your home page, and went over to your link (thinking that the brownie recipe might be there emoticon ) it wasn't..
I always say, when the door is closed, a window is opened. Maybe this is your window! Most of the time the only one who says we can't do something is us, isn't that funny! Thanks for posting your thoughts, and a very good luck to you (and really, I would come and buy them)...
