Counting the Calories

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

And logging every little morsel this week. There are so many diets floating about these days. Juice fasts (which I'm honestly considering at this point), low-carb, high-protein, protein balancing, etc. Then, there are the studies that show that at the end of the day, what counts the most is simply calories in vs. calories out.

Simple math.

The fact is, I'm not sure what to believe some days, but I'm going to spend the next month logging every little morsel, every little bit and every little sip. If nothing else, it'll give me an idea about what I'm eating, how healthy it is and whether or not I'm over eating in the most basic caloric sense.

If yesterday is any indication, I have been. I would normally have eaten more than I did, but by watching my calories, I realized that my dinner needed to be something lower calorie and higher protein.

As for the juice fast, I'm doing a bit of research. Some sources claim that they help by giving the liver and pancreas a break for a few days. I'm guessing they work simply because they cut calories to a very low level.

For now, I'll just keep on counting and see where I am.

So true, it really does come down to calories in VS calories out. Although, I do find if I eat more lean protein than carbs, it helps get rid of the water weight. I'm not a low-carber, but I find little changes in the amount of carbs and sodium I consume can flush out water weight, too.
