The Monster in My Kitchen Closet

CARBS WERE THE MONSTERS IN MY KITCHEN CLOSET

I mentioned before that I had hypertension most of my life and that since I've given up wheat and sugars...my blood pressure is normal without meds. Previously I was constantly bloated and my ankles were constantly swollen; now my ankles are normal.
{...and you already know that I'm obsessive when it comes to gathering info}
so let me share something else with you.

I found something interesting in GARY TAUBES book
'WHY ARE WE FAT and what to do about it'. from page 215.

".....Insulin Signals Our Kidneys To Reabsorb Sodium, Which In Turn Causes Water Retention And Raises Blood Pressure. When Insulin Levels Drop, As They Do When We Restrict Carbohydrates, Our Kidneys Will Excrete The Sodium They’ve Been Retaining And With It Water. For Most People This Is Beneficial, And It’s The Reason Why Blood Pressure Comes Down With Carbohydrate Restrictions. (This Water Loss, Which Can Be A Half-Dozen Pounds Or More In A Two-Hundred-Pounder, Can Constitute Most Of The Early Weight Loss.) For Some Individuals Though, The Body Will Perceive The Water Loss As Something To Be Prevented. It Does So Through A Web Of Compensatory Responses That Can Lead To Water Retention And What We Call Electrolyte Imbalances…..

These Side Effects Speak To The Importance Of Having The Guidance Of A Knowledgeable Physician When Making The Decision To Avoid Fattening Carbohydrates.
IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE DIABETIC OR HYPERTENSIVE,
THEN A DOCTOR’S GUIDANCE IS CRITICAL.
SINCE RESTRICTION OF CARBOHYDRATES WILL LOWER BOTH BLOOD SUGAR AND BLOOD PRESSURE, IF YOU’RE ALREADY TAKING DRUGS TO DO THE SAME, THE COMBINATION CAN BE DANGEROUS.
Abnormally Low Blood Sugar (Known As Hypoglycemia) Can Cause Seizures, Unconsciousness, And Even Death. Abnormally Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension) Can Induce Dizziness, Fainting, And Seizures. "

So that explains the drop in my hypertension.

Have fun today.

    You are doing such a great job - getting off some of your meds and getting your BP under control. You just need to read and read and try things to see what works for you. All of our systems are different. I'm so proud that all of your hard work is paying off!!! emoticon

    So glad you've found something that is working for your body... Sounds a lot like what I'm doing. I love the cartoon that says - I'm alergic to processed carbs and sugar... I break out in FAT! I resemble that remak!

    That is a cool photo! But seriously - yeah, there's definitely something to be said for the concept of NOT blithely restricting items to an extreme degree.......isn't the human body incredible (as well as complex)?

    Thanks for the information, but really, I am mostly interested in that photo of the pancake monster! I need to start visualizing all of my food that way!
