Happy Earth Day! My gift to the Earth this year is to eat only what I need to live. I have been a vegetarian for 34 years now, so that is a boon to the earth, too. Did you know that? Eating less or no meat is helping save the planet.

And...believe me, this planet is on a seriously scary path. I've been taking my second environmental science class and reading what scientists KNOW about climate change. It is frightening, Very very frightening. The biggest difficulty about climate change is not if it exists, but how badly. And even that debate is pretty much over. The IPCC (intergovernmental panel on climate change) thought that the world was heating up in 2007, and set up several different scenarios of how bad it is. We've already exceeded their worst scenario because the IPCC failed to add in the exponential effects of the polar ice cap melting and the ice shelf slipping into the ocean in Antarctica. They are adding it into their next projection. The fact that our earth is changing because of us is a given now, how far we are from a tipping point is not sure, but it is not far! That the scientists all agree on now.

So. I'll continue to not eat meat, and add in not overeat. Eating too much is bad for the planet. The two biggest factors in global climate change are economic growth and population. Well, I'm not having any more children (LOL), and I am learning to live minimally. That includes eating less.

Isn't it cute how I tied my rant about Global Climate Change into staying on track in my eating?
