Walk, don't run

Saturday, April 21, 2012

Well, after thinking last week about not being able to run and having to start all over, I thought to myself: How did I get started running in the first place? The answer: walking. I bought a heart rate watch, and set my heart rate limits within 120 to 170. I walked two miles day with heart rate above 120 until in order to get my heart rate above 120, I had to jog, and not walk.

So, instead of doing nothing while I'm focusing on finishing up the school year (and my undergraduate career), I can start running the way I started a couple of years ago.

Thus, I will try to get a walk in every day.

Today's Data:

Duration: 26:50
Average HR: 127
Max HR: 142
kCal: 175 (though I tend to think my watch is optimistic on the kCal it says I've burned)

that's how i started too ... at age 59. today i ran 15 k & am signed up for a half in October. that's the perfect baby step way to start ... and baby steps are the route to success. you can do it, and you will. your courage has brought you so far already and now it's taking you on sensible baby steps again.
