Assignment: Describe a perfect spring day and the activities you would participate in on that day.
All my loved ones would be gathered outdoors (maybe camping) somewhere on the San Juan Islands (one of my favorite spots on the planet, off the coast of Washington State). It would be a day with no clouds. I would get up just before dawn and go for a long run in the 45-degree F cool sea air, under the rising sun with a slight breeze. When I got back, someone else would have already made coffee exactly as I like it and prepared a healthy breakfast so we could all eat together al fresco.
A group of us would go kayaking before lunch and see orca’s cavorting and sea birds flying and diving. Someone would bring baskets of food to meet us on shore when we landed, and after a healthy picnic, we’d relax and read.
After a time, before the sun got too low in the sky, another group of us would go bicycling around for a bit.
Some people who stayed behind would have gotten a delicious, healthy dinner started. As we eat outdoors, we watch the sun set over the water. Before it gets completely dark we take a short walk, enjoying the special light of dusk.
At the end of the day, everyone gathers around a campfire and shares their favorite parts of the day.
Of course, this is a dream. I will never have all my loved ones in one place any longer. Aside from geographic challenges, some have passed on to the next realm. But I carry them all in my heart. Anything that would bring meaning to my life would seem empty without my loved ones, living or not, far or near.
We aren’t gathered around a campfire, but I’ll share the favorite parts of this dream-day with you: Aside from sharing the day with my loved ones, the best parts for me are spending the entire day outdoors and eating what I enjoy without having to cook!
