My first 5K race is on Saturday!

Friday, April 20, 2012

Less than 24 hours until my first ever 5K race. It is a charity race -- benefits Ronald McDonald House here in Delaware! Race info:

Lots of good info on race prep, etc out on the web, plus some friends who are veteran racers have been of great help. My right calf is still not 100% (got a cramp last Tuesday), but I am trying to keep it stretched out and loose.

My goal is 35 minutes for tomorrow. In my training, I've hit 35:30 a few times, so I think 35 is very achievable. The calf could be an issue in getting there, but as I have read a few places, I need to keep my pace down early on and look for the big finish, which I have been working on while training, hitting close to 7mph in the final 1/4 mile. I'm sure as long as I don't get a new cramp, adrenaline will take care of any lingering soreness in my right calf.

I'll post with my results tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I know you will do your best and that's good enough. But I hope you have that picture perfect finish you have in your heart!

If at first you don't succeed, TRY TRY AGAIN !!
