Crazy Sexy

Thursday, April 19, 2012

So, a couple of weeks ago, hubby and I watched a documentary from Netflix called "Crazy Sexy Cancer". It's not new, I think it came out in 2007. Anyway, it's about this woman named Kris Carr who was diagnosed with stage 4 untreatable cancer in 2003 and her quest towards a healthy lifestyle afterwards. The great news is, it's been just over 9 years, and she's still going strong!

In addition to the movie, she's got 3 different books. I really want the one called "Crazy Sexy Diet". She also has a website dedicated to helping lead & inspire others to wellness. I caught her yesterday by chance on the daytime TV show "The Revolution" (which is weird, because I never have the TV on during the day!), so I was looking at her stuff online. You can subscribe on her website to get informative emails sent to you regularly, so I did. The first one included her "Crazy Sexy Manifesto" that you could download and read. IT IS AMAZING!!!

Here is one paragraph that I really found so meaningful:
"This self-care thing is bigger than many of us imagine. The pursuit of personal health, spiritual wealth and happiness is actually a political statement, a peaceful protest and a powerful act of love. Why? Because in order to care for ourselves in a full-tilt-boogie-I’m gonna-walk-the-talk sorta way, we must rebel against the broken systems that support disease and dismantle the status quo. We can’t wait for special interests, government policies, subsidies, agribusiness, factory farming, pharmaceutical industries and advertisers to change. But we can get off our sofas, vote with our forks and knives and heal the way we eat, drink and think."

WOW! That's what it's all about! She also includes her top 20 guidelines for living a healthy lifestyle, and I think most of them are really fantastic. You really need to check it out - she encourages you to print it and post it somewhere that you will see it every day!!!

Thanks for sharing this - what an inspiration! I had a girlfriend who also survived 'terminal, end-stage metastasized cancer' for more than 9 years with nutritional excellence so will look up Kris and her books - thanks again!
