Gotta step up my game!

Thursday, April 19, 2012

I still have 5 lbs. to get to my goal for the spring challenge which ends May 12th. This is totally possible, but it will require me to be disciplined and get serious about my efforts. My body is very stubborn and likes staying right where it is~I can stay on a plateau for a LONG time! I think I need to make a couple changes to be successful.

I have been tracking pretty faithfully since the first of the year and what I have found is that my carbs are usually above the recommended 50%. I typically eat healthy carbs such as oatmeal, whole wheat pastas/breads, beans and fruit, but it still adds up to too many carbs. I am going to have to cut back a little and add more veggies and protein.

Also, I think I need to increase my workout time. I usually do 30-45 min. 6 days a week with mixed variety/intensity. I like the quicker workouts, but it's time to step it up!

I WILL get there! I just have to stay focused and committed to my healthy lifestyle!

Sounds like a plan-you are doing just great! I was on a plateau for almost a whole year while I went through menopause, but now I am finally going down again, not fast, but that part doesn't matter. The important thing is I can feel my body is capable of losing again, and I love it! Good luck and may your choices be blessed with success! emoticon

In one challenge that I was in, one of the leaders suggested adding just 15 more minutes of exercise daily. I began to walk an extra 15 minutes, just by itself, and that got me over a plateau at the time.

Something else I did was increase protein; Greek yogurt is my favorite way to do this. I used to be just at the bare minimum of protein, and I must say carbs are my favorite food group ;-), but increasing the protein helped as well. I enjoyed planning a Greek yogurt into my evening snack.
