This morning DH and I had our usual 4 miles walk with friends, DH did 2 miles and myself and friends did 4.5 miles. We walked fast just as we did yesterday. I noticed my new OMRON Aerobic pedometer I bought from the Spark store does not give me the same number of steps it actually gives me more. I like it even more than my other one. I have given that OMRON to DH and he loves it’s simplicity and it always goes to zero and keeps the number of steps in the memory for 7 days. My walking buddies were definitely impressed.
After walking we in the bakery and shared a HERMIT, walnuts and raisin how good it tasted, Just a small piece for all of us was all that was needed to feel special.
DH and I had needed to use separate cars so we drove home and had lunch.
After lunch we went to find the plants, we were looking around and DH saw a sign no debit or credit cards. OOPS! We did not have much cash with us and no check book. DH went home to pick up the check book and I browsed in the greenhouses.
I wanted Blue Lobelia and white Alyssum. The flats I found were variegated white and purple and purple being my favorite I abandoned the red white and blue theme we had chosen.
DH cam back and he was surprised, but not really, he knows my penchant for purple for as long as I can remember.
The Alyssum varies from white through Fuchsia to purple. I purchased 4 flats and found Snapdragons that matched the Fuchsia so I bought those and we wanted some height so we have bought a variegated Cosmos. It grows to 2 feet and the colors were so lovely. I bought Pansies, I love those, I like the ones with the big happy faces, I feel I have to always smile back at them.
We brought these home to harden outside in the garage to protect them from the cold nights we are anticipating.
I went out to the flower beds did a lot more preparation work and discovered a lot of the leafy plants I put there in the fall are really well through the earth so that is good.
I have one more Hosta to move from the front. It is so big it kills a lot of grass and it attracts too many slugs who in turn attract too many skunks. Now I was able to plant three more perimeter areas with the big Hosta, ELEPHANT ears it was called when I bought it years ago.
Now I will be replacing the Large Hosta with some sun loving colorful annuals, That will help us to have better access to the roof shoveling in winter.
Tomorrow we are gong to the professional AKA the more expensive greenhouses. They have many more to select from and I have in my mind some tall grasses and some delphiniums or the old fashioned hollyhocks. I also want a clematis. I wanted blue but I am hoping to find purple.
Today I walked 16062 steps. 4.5 miles on the trail and came home to really heavy lifting and digging in amongst the tree roots, 2.5 hours later I had to go in and wash up and fix dinner.
DH said lets go out, I declined I had cooked chicken ready to use so, we had Squash, Roast chicken and a concoction of Apples, Onions and Cabbage a recipe I found in a Laura Ingalls Wilders book. Little House on the Prairie series. They called it Scrapple and it was served with sausages and it was Almanzo’s Favorite meal. Our second son read the entire series in Kindergarten and he was forever talking about what went on in those stories. I too fell in love with them. We never had them in England, hope they do now. HUGS Pat in Maine.
Now I am off to the tub to soak away the aches from my fighting the tree roots. An earlier night is very necessary.
