Is this for real ? do I really like almond milk ?

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

I have been making health changes rather rapidly this month. I actually purchased soy milk, almond milk, and vanilla almond milk. I have been using them in recipes. I stopped drinking regular milk several days ago. But I was scared to mess up my cereal. Yesterday I put only a tiny bit of cereal in the bowl, screwed up my face, shut my eyes and went for it. To my surprise it was wonderful. I am so excited ! Maybe even enough to try the other two kinds soon. emoticon

The fact that it lasts longer appeals to me. I have a hard time using up a half gallon of milk before it expires. I haven't tried it, but I've heard good things about it from those that have.

You're being adventurous! I can just imagine you screwing up your face to try your cereal with almond milk.

It takes some experimenting to find what you like when exploring alternatives. I prefer Almond Breeze unsweetened at 40 cal over Silk Unsweetened Almond milk at 35, but for the sake of those 5 calories, I buy the Silk brand. :-) When I reach maintainance, I'll reward myself by switching back. I've found Silk Unsweetened Soymilk works best for cooking, especially creamy type soups. I made some delicious seafood chowder with it last week. The only downside is that they don't have nearly as much protein, and I'm always having to work in some more.

This is great! I actually discovered the Almond Milk Unsweetened last month - and to my surprise there are only 35 calories per cup. It took a bit of adjusting to on my cereal, but it is Ok! And, it last so much longer than regular milk...
