Days eight and nine: blog vs sleep trade-off...

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

I didn't blog yesterday because I chose to go to bed early instead. I kind of wish I was doing the same tonight.

Monday - Day eight:
1932 calories, 185 g carb / 144 g pro / 75 g fat (37% / 29% / 34%).
Exercise: P90X Shoulders & Arms DVD + P90X Ab Ripper DVD (total 1 hr 15 mins together)
Deficit: -485 calories
Successes: Not feeling bad after the Sun Run, while many of my coworkers who ran on our corporate team were hobbling around the office. Did my full DVD after work plus the abs add-on. Bumped up my weight on lots of the moves! Raaaaaaar!!!!!! *flex* Went to bed early and got some extra ZZZ's.
Struggles: Struggling to get my protein in the over-30% range. I just don't want to eat it. Tossed out my leftover-salmon-on-salad lunch and bought a veggie sandwich instead. Backlash? Or just an unsettled stomach? I never really like leftover cold salmon. Hmph. Bleh. I need some better protein ideas.

Today - Day nine:
1789 calories, 180 g carb / 131 g pro / 69 g fat (39% / 28% / 33%).
Exercise: A short yoga class and walking to & from class (even though it was a wet half hour walk home!)
Deficit: -420 calories
Successes: Walked home after class even though I wasn't in the most comfortable footwear.
Struggles: Protein percentage is slipping! Should have gone to bed earlier. Need to plan ahead - maybe tomorrow I'll have time to cook some turkey meatballs and hardboiled eggs for high-protein snacks.

I'm not sure when I'll have time - I'm out of the office doing structural inspections all day, then meeting a wedding florist, then coming home to work out, then dinner, then going to bed/nap early because I have to get up in the middle of the night for some dumb overnight inspections (we have to do them when nobody's there and they can shut down power)... so then I sleep in Thurs morning and try to get back on schedule. Ugh.

OOooooooooooookay. To end on a positive note... check this out! It's us finishing the Sun Run! Really low quality - screen-shotted from a video. That blurry orange blob is me with my arms in the air. Max and I are holding hands. And running away from the photographer in this shot, just in case you really can't tell. Because it's blurry. I expect the pro photos to be up within a week or so. There were 50,000 people in the race so it takes a while, understandably!

P.S. I forgot to mention on the weekend (how could I forget?!) that I'm down another pound! I saw 155.4 on the scale on Saturday for my 5% challenge weigh in! No comment on the fact that I also saw 158 again today, but shh. The one that matters is the 155. I'm only two or three pounds from my lowest weight ever!

hmm. I also get kind of sick when I try to eat super high protein. It just ends up feeling like chalk in my mouth and hurts my stomach. I think you're getting a ton already, I wouldn't stress too much about pushing it higher than what feels comfortable. And at the rate you're going, you're going to hit (and move past) your previous low in no time. So just focus on getting that sleep, sticking with the P90X, and eating lots of whole foods. :)

Oooh, I love bumping up weights on the upper body workouts! There's an ab add-on for S90, too. I should probably order it one of these days...ha Leftover salmon doesn't sound all that appealing to me, either, so I can't say I blame you for pitching it.

Can't wait to see more pictures from the run!

Wow, you have one busy schedule! Congrats on the run and on the loss this week! Keep up the good work. I'm afraid I can't be much help with the protein, other than protein shakes, fish is what gives the most protein bang for the buck.

Re: protein percentages... You're getting a looooot of protein as it is, and you'd need to eat what, 20 more grams to get past 30% (keeping the rest the same)? I feel like body builder types who eat that much protein supplement with protein shakes. How else could you possible get 150, 175 grams per day without eating whole cans of tuna and dozens of egg whites and chicken breasts?

I doubt I have any protein tricks up my sleeve that you don't already know about, so that's my 2 cents! Congrats on being 9 days in, not being sore from your run, and continuing to rock it!
