Ahh the Dandayamana-Janushirasana Head to Knee pose, bet you think I've been able to do this now that I've been doing Bikram for almost 2 months now...huh? Nope, still haven't been able to perfect this one. I've been told that this posture can take months upon months to accomplish perfectly. So I guess I have awhile to get this one and all the rest. I can balance on the standing leg with my knee locked out and one leg up with my quadricep parallel to the floor and knee bent at a 90 degree angle and sometimes I'm even able to straighten that leg out but at the moment completing that entire posture, I'm just not there yet. It'll come, I know it will. These are challenges for me and will continue to be even after this 60 day challenge. This challenge is nothing more than, "can I do this for 60 days straight".
Onto the update for week 2. I had a lot of issues this past week and I'm not really sure why. I was told that it's just like anything else, that I would have good practices and I would have some not so good practices. The main issue I'm having is that my sciatica is starting to flare up again and with that comes pain in the piriformis muscle. In other words, I literally am having a pain in the butt. Ouch! Some of the postures are affecting it a bit more and causing some intense pain but I just treat it very gingerly and move on. I was told to take epsom salts baths after my practices, so I'll be trying that this week. A couple of the days of the week were better than others. I was able to balance in Standing Bow Pose (Dandayamana-Dhanurasana) on the left side for a lot longer, not a perfect balance but a balance nonetheless. I also did pretty good with one side of the Head to Knee pose and mostly the side where I'm not having the glute muscle issues. I did another double on Saturday so that I could take Sunday off and rest. I have to admit it was kind of nice to just chill on Sunday. Well, not necessarily chill because I did a lot of house work but no workouts were done. I love a good challenge and this is definitely a good one in my book. I have to be honest that when I've completed this, it'll be nice to practice 4 days a week and sometimes 5 if I want.
All in all, I score this Bikram 60 Day Challenge Week 2 on a scale of 1-10, a 5.
Have a super week and Namaste!
