I was listening to an interesting training segment tonight for my new skin care line business venture (little part time interest I developed after falling madly in love with their products). I wasn't able to listen to the entire webinar as it cut into my body pump class time and I wasn't about to miss that! They record and post the webinars for us to listen to in the future anyway....so I will catch the whole thing another time.
But when I signed off of the call to join my class they were discussing something interesting. That was all of the different things that motivate people. They were saying that money and prestige aren't what motivates everyone and that some people are motivated simply by being recognized. They gave some examples and I recognized myself. I was thrilled in High School to wear the gold cord as recognition that I was in the top of the class. I loved being named Motivator of the Day last week. I love to hit goals, set and achieve them and to be recognized ...however formally or informally for having achieved them. I realize this now.
In my work life there isn't much recognition or appreciation for a job done well, or poorly for that matter, and that is really demotivating for me. I think this is why I am doing well and enjoying the new venture I've taken into the skin care product line, it is a product line I can be passionate about because I truly and wholeheartedly believe that these are incredible products offering a great value to customers, and the reward system in place is one that I understand well and have been successful with. They set targets and I can meet them. They have various achievable bonuses and I have a coach/mentor whom I respect and admire.
It is a perfect recipe for me to thrive and be satisfied. I can see the possibility to achieve recognition doing something I love...and I feel I am doing a service to people I care about by spreading the word about these products, very much win-win!
And their training program has helped me to understand myself a bit better in the process.
